    Default Coil over conversion

Ok, so I'm currently converting rt132 struts to coilovers for my ae71. Here's my numbers that I have, id just like to make sure I'm on the right track.

Sprung ae71 struts from the bottom of the strut to the top of the top spring perch is 550mm, unsprung 650mm

New mr2 inserts are about 560mm unsprung and I think about 520mm sprung.

Now I got the 520mm from saying my 7kg springs move about 40mm providing the front of a ae71 is about 300kg each side.

Am I sniffing too many fumes or am I correct?
Plan is to make the highest point of my coilover about 30mm lower than standard.

    Cheers
    Corey

    Hi Corey,
You also need to take into account the spring preload when you are taking these measurements.

You will only get the 40mm compression of the strut under 300kg of weight on it if you have 0 preload (ie if the spring is only just snug in the strut)
If you want to adjust it any lower than that you will have the spring non-captive when it is unloaded, there is some chance it could slip off its seat.

but if your measurements of the open length of the strut are good then your sums seem fine (assuming the 0 preload part).
If you preload it at all then the car would sit a bit higher than the 30mm reduction you are aiming for.

Has this actually happened to anyone? Curious.
