does anybody now how much it would cost to do a hilux diff conversion with a LSD. ive been told it isnt that hard. not hard to find the stuff.

housing: say 400
weld on mounts: 400
custom tailshaft: 450
i dont know much abotu the LSD's but a new one for most models is around $1200
then setting up the lsd in the housing: 400
and its a good idea while your at it to put new bearings and seals in your housing: 400
we're up to like 3000 or so
rough figures, but you get the idea!

Tailshafts are only 200 250 max. They are really massive and only necessary with. 200 plus at the wheels in drift cars. Pretty much bullet proof

Cost of a job like this depends entirely on how you do it, who you know and what you can do yourself.
If you scrounge for good deals, do lots yourself, have mates in the trade and are happy to live with 5stud then you could probably shoe-horn one in for $1000 or so.
But if you just go to a shop with a Hilux housing and ask them to make it fit, change to 4 stud and build an LSD to go in it then it could easily be up round $3000.
So it really just depends how long your piece of string is.

I would rather spend that three grand on a diff (hi-lux or other) i knew would not FAIL when i really needed it, than spend nearly the same amount on a diff (t- series) that is not that much stronger than an s-series in my opinion.
The fact is that when you pay $3000 or even $2000 for a diff for your sprinter, which weighs approximately 1000 kgs, you should not have to worry about breaking axles every time you sneeze with your foot on the loud pedal, and as for weight and size there are 86s out there being rallied, drifted and dragged equipped with hi-lux diffs, so there really is no argument except for one STRENGTH of which the hi-lux diff has plenty.
As for price i have seen hi-lux diffs for sale last week on here for $250 and yeah it is already gone.
a mate of mine has a hilux and could get me an LSD centre and the housing and axles for it for cheap he rekons. jst the rest of the work im not sure about.
its worth it if your running big powa , helps keep the arse on the ground
