Thats massive......
Long story short, I lunched a b/top 20v engine the other night that had been going well and pulled strong with no rattles or noises.
Until on the limiter it decided to do this..
Hole in the block below the oil pressure switch / power steer bracket
Hole in the block below the alternator.
Yep you can see both sides.
#1 piston has come into contact with the exhaust valves...
Crank has a gouge in it, and the balancing weights are missing a bit of metal.
Conrod snapped in 3 and the piston damaged pretty badly
Oil windage tray has been gouged as well.
That is the bearing cap from #1, distorted and massively out of shape.

a few different guys like on ozclubbies claim that blacktop rods really are strong and they have meat where they are needed, but this is not an isolated case here. I say their not strong enough. Hows the head look?

Ouch, you weren't kidding about the hole.
ive read around the traps that blacktops can occasionally throw a rod with regular limiter fun. doesnt seem common but can happen. i set my limiter to 8000 when i read that. sorry i forget where i saw it but. at least u went out in glory haha
8500 is supposed to be max rpm for balanced AE92 Kouki rods (And theyre apparently the strongest OEM 4A rods) so I sure as heck wouldnt wanna try 8300 with stock BT rods whose weakness is near notorious!
My condolences for your loss of what looks to have been an otherwise excellent engine!
Next time (unless you jump on the 3S/F20/SR-train) you plan on going rev-limiter get some rods that holds (OEM Silvertop, Aftermarket like Jun or something), at minimal get the internals balanced for smooth revs, or ghetto solution get a 5spd M/T or A/T ECU for lower rpm-limit and more punch.
