Cleaned heaps of nuts, vinegar works pretty well if you leave them overnight, takes all the rust off. Also tried Pepsi max (sugar free) and it didn't really do anything. I'll get some pics tomorrow. Also did the stupid thing of washing the vinegar off and thinking I could leave it overnight until I put oil on... re-rusted. All done now however. Engine is slowly coming together, IM is on, valve covers are painted and on, in the process of putting oil pump on but was stopped by my lack of a front main seal. Progress.

-Also, couldn't use phosphoric acid in the end as it is highly dangerous when you don't know what you're doing, and my extent of chemistry is boiling water. I would have also needed to sandblast all the bolts and I didn't have the time/spare funds. In the end vinegar was magical.

Been roughly 2 years since I got this shipwreck so thought I'd post an update. I've been overseas for 6 months of that time but I guess it still goes as a lazy build.

Engine is almost complete, need to do the sump gasket, tb, fuel rail and a that's about it. Then timing belt and crank pulleys when I get them back. All the underbody bits are at the powdercoaters. Going to finish topcoating the engine bay tomorrow and hopefully engine can go in next week whenever I get the cross member back.

Got some bushings removed for the powdercoater, are they still useable even though the lips have been broken off? If I can't use them whats a decent midrange option, superpro? Don't want rubbish that will crack in two years..

    Some new 5kg springs

Camber tops, Tein made them for Ae86s or would these be S13?

All painted. Vht wrinkle used for the vavle covers and IM, came up pretty nice. Sanded back the lettering.

Also these are what bolts look like after using white vinegar and then soaked in oil. These were driveshaft bolts so were quite rusty etc as you can imagine

    Peace out for now

Finally got parts back from the powdercoaters, fresh feels.
    Sump is on.

I actually have no clue how to put this headfuck back together, if anyone in Adelaide knows their Ae86's and likes copious amounts of beer feel free to help me out --

    Won't you love me?

Chassis repair manual - has full assembly instructions. Also, it's all properly bookmarked etc for quick navigation on the computer.

Haven't updated this in a while. I went to Japan, found some motivation there, saw some nice rides and a few ae86s.

Have just been working on my ta22 but managed to buy some final parts for this.

But now uni is over I have some time, so to all you avid readers out there, here is a big update....

The engine is in! I did it. With the help of the old man. Replaced the rear main seal on the way as well. Hopefully it all comes together quickly after this

Welded the shocker hangers on my t series today for a corona disc conversion. My welding has gotten pretty good I think

Problem is I got a series 1 t18 diff so it has no swaybar mounts, so thinking of just getting the type of swaybar that bolts to the Lcas like in the old celicas

Welds aren't too bad, looks like it could've been run a touch hotter and slower though. Good to see the car is coming along now
