    Default 4AGE Carb ignition setup

    Hi all,

Ok, so im doing a carb conversion on my 4AGE, now i have done a bit of reading on what to do with the distributor, now i have read that you can use the guts out of a 4kc as such.

I would just like to know exactly how to modify the dizzy, has anyone got any pics and a write up??

Also how far of would a 4AC dizzy be from using??

    hmm??

    Thanks all =D

Been researching this myself and from what I can surmise:

    - 4k is the most often used, needs an adaptor plate which can be purchased pre fabricated for varying prices overseas. May or may not need a new gear idk.
    - 4ac spins the opposite way but some sources seem to say that is due to the dizzy gear. Would need the same modifications as 4k dizzy, and is rather bulky.
    - Most people seem to just get a older style 4ag dizzy and lock it at a certain ignition advance with an aftermarket ignition module, eg bosch.

I'd link you the pages I got this info from but cbf. Need someone who has actually done it and knows what theyre talking about to reply . There was a guy in brisbane city whom I bought parts off, who had a single weber downdraft and locked 4ag dizzy on his ae71, pretty cool.

    - Also there are other aftermarket electronic options that offer ignition advance, and there is one for 300 aus on ebay from nz that offers ignition advance of the stock 4age dizzy.

I used a 4k electronic distributor that i bought brand new for around $120 and pull the shaft out and machine it to suit a 4age distributor gear that you can buy new from Toyota.
then I machined a aluminum sleeve that enlarges the part with the o-ring that seals into the head.
then drill and tap a new retainer bolt hole into the head as the 4k slot is further in toward the bore.

I have done a few this way and they sit in a lot further in than using an adaptor plate so there are less issues with it fouling on the headers.
might be able to help you out if you want, for a price of course

For the money being spent in half ass setups, I'm not sure why you wouldn't speak to performance ignition and get a scorcher distributor or other option from them...

    ^^^yeh true.

Thats what i did. I did try and get an optical ignition to work but it was far too unreliable so i just got a scorcher distributor from performance.
