Default Constructing a wiring loom - Haltech Platinum sprint on 16v 4AGE

I have some specific question, as well as some best practice questions, regarding making a wiring loom to put a Haltech Platinum Sprint 500 into an AE86 with bigport 4AGE.

I have began a project to convert my 16V 4AGE from running a Microtech MT8 with MAP sensored Standard Manifold, over to running a Haltech Platinum Sprint on EFI technology quad throttle bodies.

I picked up a used Haltech Platinum Sprint 500 with a cut loom and some igniters for a good price. I also bought an old smallport wiring harness to get the connectors.

I'm now working through the process of constructing the required loom. I've done quite a bit of searching but haven't found all my answers.

I plan on being able to take out the existing microtech with it's loom and replace it with this new loom and Haltech.

I've constructed a "Plan" on a large piece of cardboard and marked it up by laying on top of the engine and measured the lengths of wire required for each sensor/plug.

I split out the connectors and wires I needed from the old 4AGE loom. Just the dissy, TPS, injectors, air temp sensor, water temp sensor.

    Specific questions
How do I wire up the 4 wire smallport distributor to the total of 8 wires for the haltech loom? The existing haltech loom has both sets of 4 wires soldered up to 4 wires on a connector but I wouldn't have done it that way.
Both the "trigger" and "home" input 4 core wires have "12v+ switched" and "ground", so I could only use one set for each of those, but how do I connect up the trigger +&- and the home +&-?

TPS. The Haltech loom is for a 3 wire TPS, but my TPS is 4 wire. I haven't found a wiring diagram for the standard TPS to workout if I can just ignore one wire. What's the solution? I also have a nissan TPS that came with the Quads I could use.

Air Temp sensor. Where should the air temp sensor be mounted when using filter socks? I'm would like to use an airbox, which will provide plenty of space of the sensor, but space may not allow that, hence the filter socks.

MAP sensor. I don't plan on connecting up a MAP sensor, and just tune it for TPS/Load.
What about the road speed sensor? Is that needed?

Ignition modules. The haltech came with 3 bosch ignition modules. MTR03 0227 100124. Can I use these or should I just use the module I have in the car already with the microtech?

With this setup, my searching has lead me to believe I should use the following settings:
    Multitooth 24-1
    Trigger Angle 70 degrees.

    General questions
Where's the best place to wires between the factory plugs and the haltech loom? Just cut them short as possible and use as much of the Haltech loom as possible? Or use as much of the existing 4AGE wires as I have, getting the joins out away from the engine?

What about joining the wires? Solder the joins and heat shrink the wrapping?

Thanks for any wisdom that can make this a better outcome.

    Cheers
    Craig

These diagrams should help you with the wiring of the dizzy...

As for the other questions, the haltech i've wired into a car i used the haltech loom and put the connectors on the haltech loom. It was a complete uncut one though, so it is a bit different from what you are trying to do.

Otherwise you can use the small port loom if you need to and then swap the ecu plugs over. I've also always soldered the wires and used conduit / heat sleave where it runs close to the engine

Firstly, post up the haltech wiring diagram. When that's done I'll tell you how to wire teh CAS. Too lazy to go look it up myself.

Which TPS are you going to use? Does a haltech want a 0-5v or does it not care and you can do 5-0v?

Inlet temp sensor should show the inlet temp, put it in the air stream that the air going into the quads would take somewhere near the quads.

The trigger is 24/1 not 24-1. I dunno about the angle but pop the cap off and watch it/measure it.

Road speed isn't needed. You'd use it more for boost per speed control if you needed it. Or higher speed load corrections.

What module do you already have? The x4 box? Single coil/waste spark/ quad coils?

If you are going to join wires in the bay, use dual wall heatshrink. Twist the wires together and then solder them. WHere you connect depends on the condition of the wires. If your waterproof connectors aren't doing a great job and your pins are starting to get corrrosion, I'd cut all the wiring and start the new wire at the plug. If it's fine, I'd probably do it at the ECU side. Also depends on the condition of the loom too.

Thanks Matt, I'll check out those diagrams.
    Ken, here's the diagram.

I intend using the single coil. I'll check the doco re the tps. I recall reading it can use the factory sensors.

Yeah, factory sensors, but may be required to be rewired by switching the ground and 5v pins around.

I'll have a look at the diag when I get home and have some time..

The Ne/24 tooth signal goes to 1(yellow) ON THE ECU pinout (3 on the sensor end). The reset/home signal (2, yellow again) goes to either black or green. I don't know which is which but if you hook one up, the offset will be 70 and 250 on the other. Also, you realise it's a 12 tooth signal right, not 24?

You need to connect 17 and 18 to the white wire on the 4 pin plug. The smallport CAS has the 3 white wires joining to one white wire outside of the CAS body. With earlier Haltechs (E series) you had to wire the 17 and 18 to each of the sensors' individual grounds. Otherwise, the crosstalk through the earth would make the ECU blow engines up. I dunno about the 500/1000/2000 stuff but I personally would split it and run separate grounds for each sensor.

Ignore the 12v and ground wires in the trigger harness there. Don't hook them up to other shit.

Single coil, use whatever ignitor you feel like. Just be sure of whether it's rising or falling edge trigger.

Cheers SKylar, I'll have a poke around at the dissy on the weekend.
