    Default 4ac weber issues

Got a 32/36 weber that I've put on my 4ac in my adm ae86 (already been through the mess of that). Deleted all the vacuum lines except the ones from the dizzy. All seems well when the car starts but it just won't maintain an idle. Can anyone help? I've semi isolated timing as an issue but it may actually be an issue with the weber. Not really sure and it's doing my head it.

    Get a 4age.... Jist kidding.
If it runs well on start up but dies when warm it might be too rich or over fueling.
Vacuum advance on your dizzy could be out too so when it curves back down to idle speed with excess petrol bogging it down plus your timming being out will cause it to cut out.
Try setting your timming right and bump up your idle to keep it alive, you'll probably need to get the Webber tuned with a new needle jetted to suit the motor to get the most out of it.

P plates. Well that's my excuse hahaha. I didn't pay a cent for the weber so may as well.

I'm pretty sure I've got the vacuuming right although there are just so many I may have buggered something up when removing most of it.

Ill check timing to be sure but I'm pretty sure it's right.

Also, I forgot to mention. There's a solenoid on one of the fuel jets (I know pretty little about the weber itself) which doesn't appear to work. I've applied 12v directly to it and nothing seems to happen. If its busted, which it appears to be, would it be causing this? Cheers man appreciate the help

Personally I know nothing about the mechanics of a Webber, just know they sound awesome =)
I'm just going off logic and giving a general idea of what might be causing your issue.
Hopefully someone else here can help out more. I know one member here, terry, just fitted a Webber to his 4ac, I'll pm him and see if he can give some advice

Terry here, iv just put a weber on to my 4ac about 2 month ago seem fine.

Seem like you have tune the car while cold while he choke is on and when the choke turns off your car dies

So there 3 type of weber for the 4ac ae86
    weber 32/36
    DGV manual choke
    DGEV electric choke
    DGAV water choke

easies one would be DGEV be coz the ae86 come out factory with an electric choke. Assuming u have this one just the red wire from your factory loom connects to the choke on the weber. Then fuel and vacuum advances, that's it. Check your timing the factory 4ac setting should be 5 degrees before top dead centre. If everything is fine it's now time for tuning, make sure your car is fully warmed up to normal running temp before you tune. You cannot tune the weber when the choke is on, it has to be warm and the choke has to be off. Adjust the idle speed to about 750-800 under load so air con on head lights on. Then turn in the fuel screw until the engine get really rough or dies then slow back out 1/4 to 1/2 a turn until it is running its best. Once you have done this, turn the air con and head light off and your idle should be now 850-900 without load, all done !

to check that everything is fine let the car cool down to cold and start the car. The automatic choke should turn on and slowly idle up to about 1700-1800 to warm up the car. To turn the choke off once car reaches running temp just give the car some gas and it should go back down to your idle set 750-900 which ever u tune it to at normal temp. If you give your car some gas early and the choke turns off before your car reaches normal temp, it will idle very rough or stall that's only because its cold.

Good luck ill post up some photos for you soon so you can see, have any trouble or me know and ill see if I can help

    Hi Terry,

Thanks for the help mate, it's appreciated.

Well, unluckily it's a dgav. Any idea...?

Update though: it's come off a 4ac working. Also been told the 4ac was fine with the previous stock carb. Oh well.

Here's a quick pic I snapped. Click image for larger version.

I'm not expert on carbs (I actually know pretty much nothing) but is something missing?

Fuel pressure?? Webers love about 4psi. Are you still using the mechanical lift pump off the block or an electric??

If the fuel pressure is very low the car will not maintain an idle or if its too high the pressure will overcome the needle and seat and flood the carb and pour the fuel in. Who knows if the idle circuit is jetted and adjusted correctly or the float height?

I'd get a rebuild kit for them as well. Second hand carbs are usually heinous, however they always "Work great". Kits should be super easy to get as Ford 2 Litre Pinto engines in Escorts and the like came out with DGAV's. Dime a dozen.

They are what is known as a progressive carb so the main barrel is used for 80% of operation and the secondary barrel opens when you are at WOT or there abouts.
