Default Difference Between Hilux Front and Rear Diff Center???

    Hi Guys,
i went to the wrecker today looking for a 3.7:1-ish LSD hilux diff center. One of the diff centers that i really liked had a 3.6:1 ratio (we counted the no. of turns of the crown wheel vs pinion gears). He said it was from a Hilux model YN56, so i figured it was a G-Series. however, when we tried to fit it into a G series diff housing, the bolts couldn't line up with the holes.

After several tries, he said it was probably an F-series center. The crown wheel had "36" stamped on it, plus number 8 on it somewhere.

Now i'm thinking it could have been a front center. ...

anyone with a clue about how i can tell a front from a rear?

Im pretty sure the centres are interchangable between the solid front and rear diffs.

Search some hilux 4wd forums, theyre pretty savvy with diff info, lsd, ratio and locker upgrades are all the rage.

Measure the crown wheel. An F-series is 7.5" and the G is 8"

Thanks guys for your input, i've been busy with stuff...

There was another issue of whether it was LSD or not. Here's what happened: When i turned the central part that attaches to the shaft, the parts where the axles go were rotating anti-clockwise of each other. (forgive the lay man's terms). does this mean it aint LSD? would it make a difference if the axles were connected? if viewed from the left side, both axles were going the same direction. but when i told the guy to go over to the right side and check rotation, he said his side was counter clockwise of compared to mine..............

    okay i'm officially confused...
