as to whether having an ae86 as your first car is a viable option, it all comes down to budget, and patience. With these cars, the term "you get what you pay for" is key. And as these cars continue to become more popular, and rarer, value will continue to increase, so I wouldn't expect much change from $10,000 for a clean car, but even then it will likely have some issues, whether they are a lot of Km on the clock, rust, accident damage etc.
And although there are always a few around, if you want something in particular like a panda trueno, be prepared to wait for the right car, and then paying the premium for it.
