got this idea in my head for some reason, Ive never seen a set like I'm thinking.,..

But would having a slightly expanded chamber as the first part of the pipe work on the manifold be beneficial in any way.....?

kind of like two slightly outwards curved cones joined end to end.. say so it goes from the pipe size your using in your design and maybe flares out 1/2"-3/4" larger over the first 200-300mm if that makes sense...

Just an odd thought I'm having but am intrigued about.. could be a shit way to make pipes for all I know.. lol

Well if you look closely at that pic that I posted on pg 1 you will see that they have done exaxtly what you are speaking of, not as long but yes they have a small expansion chamber

It is actually a pretty good way of doing things, creating almost a venturi effect

They do the same thing though, I get what you mean with the two cones end to end but this is just a nicer more efficient method

Most 4-2-1 headers I've seen that make good power have rather short primaries (from the head), and relatively long secondaries. This is how most OEMs make them for their performance NA engines (3SGE beams, Honda F20c... well, most Honda engines, actually.)

Whether or not that style is ideal, I don't know. I'm not entirely convinced 4-2-1 headers can even technically be called 'tuned length'. They don't really seem to boost any particular part of the rev range. Good ones just flow really well everywhere in the power band.

You could be thinking of anti-reversion chambers? I've only ever seen them on that crazy guys 20v 4age with the gold cam covers. The guy obviously has way, way too much expendable income.

    Here's a quote from him:

"Those bulges are anti reversion chambers...direct from the builders site is an explaination of them

REVERSION is the secondary pressure wave that travels back up the primary pipes and enters into the cylinder on valve overlap. As this pressure wave travels back up the pipe, it brings with it all the residual gases still left in the pipe. This is what contaminates the fresh intake charge. Enter in stepped headers and ANTI-REVERSION chambers, placed at strategic locations in the primary pipes. These methods are employed to tune the arrival of the exhaust wave and to diminish the effects of the high pressure in the pipes. The results are higher volumetric efficiency and more power."

I think I've disagreed with you about this before, and I've checked and checked and looked at the pictures as close as I can. Unless I am totally delusional, this one shows 3 and 4 merging together first. The image is straight from their website.

Yeah sorry but that definately looks to be 4&3 merging.
And yeah I was talking to a guy that I know who has a decent amount of experience with this stuff and he was telling me about the anti reversion chambers and how they work, getting pretty crazy about it all, I don't think my design will go that nuts lol

4 and 3 merge. Low res pic makes it hard to spot. POS.
