Default Running a thermo fan from stock BT 20v ecu

    Hey everyone,

I'm S T RUGGLING with this one, Im so close to the end of my Ae86 build and I'm finalising some loose ends here and there which I've been putting off.
Im having trouble with my thermo fan. Im running the stock bt ecu and I have isolated the output from it to trigger a thermo fan relay but there dosent seem to be enough current to operate a standard relay.

    Has anyone come across this?
Ive been told to run a micro relay (or something like that) to run another relay to the fan but im not having any luck finding it.

    Cheers ae86 guru's

The thermo fan input on a blacktop ecu is purely for the ecu idle controls. It's an input not output.

Get a thermofan relay from any fwd rolla and wire that in. The relay is reversed, when u earth it out there is no power.

Off the the thermostat housing is the single green plug, run that to the earth of the relay and when it's cold the housing provides an earth.

once it gets hot then it will stop and the fan turns on. I'll try and get some pics for u over the weekend

    Thanks for the reply matt,
Do you have the ecu pinout handy?
The signal I get from the ecu is from ELS1
And yes like you said, theres no power on this wire when earthed, There for when heat increases, resistance increases, its then no longer in a earthed state and fires up the fan

    Or am I just confused?

Electrical load sense 1 - def an input for the ecu. The ecu is expecting a 12v input when the thermo fan is running

That wire run directly to the earth on the thermo relay.

For the power to the relay I'd just run a wire direct to the battery via a 30amp fuse and join the 2 power pins together.

I'll grab a relay in a min and show u

Thanks for the detailed reply, on second thought I think im getting a trigger from the ecu from the "cf" pin, is that the correct one?

If you are in the ae111 from factory they don't use it.
