Check the capacitors in the ecu that they haven't leaked.
Any check engine light?
Ok my 16v has developed a recent problem, more so after it has got up to temperature but today it did it straight away, even stalled getting out of the driveway (I did take the dizzy cap off yesterday tho and gave everything a good clean because there is an oil leak going on that I need to address but I don't think its the cause here.. I also disconnected the cold start injector to see if it made any difference (could be why it played up straight away today I guess)
So the problem is the engine runs fine, while warming up (apart from today) but once Ive been driving for a while usually 15-20 mins (has been starting sooner lately) it starts stuttering and goes no where if I try and give it any throttle, like its hitting a rev limiter, I can sort of edge past it slowly if I slowly raise the revs with really light throttle but anything else and it shits itself.. really bad when trying to take off from a stand still, been caught out a few times now..
It has been running fine up until now, around 6k since full rebuild. Ive ordered a new dizzy cap as it looks about due. Plugs all look clean although a bit light/greyish, new leads, I cleaned all the connectors and ignition components yesterday, new fuel pump since engine install.
Things I'm leaning towards are the ecu coolent sensor, the knock sensor, tps or fpr/pump
any ideas ?

Any smoke when it stutters? I would check map sensor, reset tps and igniter/coils in that order.
4agte finally finished. 252rwkw with more to come
yet to check ecu but I'll put that on the list, can't say i notice any smoke or fuel smell... got code 51 (AC something?) I removed the ac.

How old is the fuel pump?
Once the pump gets hot it could be dropping out, and you will loose most of your fuel pressure.
Does the fault seem like a real harsh/quick stutter? Or more like a boggy rev limiter?
If its the first id say its electrical, if its the latter id be inclined to say fuel related.
pump was fitted at the same time the motor was dropped in, brand new walbro. Its like a switch gets flicked on and it says no more, just doesn't want to rev past where ever you are when you try and open the throttle... kind of like been in too high of a gear, actually sometimes if its up hill etc I have to drop down

had this same issue. some days car would run perfect at temp, some days rough at temp. some days rough/good at cold.
turned out to be capacitors in ECU as said by Matt above.
Pinching the fuel return line should help eliminate pressure issues

_ ok so far I have pulled out the ecu, checked it over and all looks good.. checked the fuel pressure by pinching return, all seems good, I checked the coil and it seems ok, timing is fine.
The car doesn't have to be warm now to play up. as soon as you push on the throttle it plays up.. leaning very much to the TPS been the problem.. I have tried moving it around and can't get it to run much better, although it does affect the idle when moving it about. The engine check light stays on constantly now also after taking the ecu out... I have disconnected it and removed all fuses to reset the fault codes to no avail.

Any other codes other than 51?
