Default Urgent! Corona MKII MX13 MX23 Diff / Brake Parts ( Backing Plates)

    Hi Everyone,

I urgently need the backing plates from an MX13/23 F Series Diff for my Corolla - I've done all the mounts, new gears, bearings , 2-way and was relying on backing plates from a friend who now says they are "Damaged".

I will purchase a complete diff if need be! But ideally I'd just like the Backing Plates.

Located in North West Sydney - Will pay for post from wherever!

    Thanks,

    Dan

    Hey Dan,

It's Eddie. I just realised that you should be able to use the backing plates from a T-series drum (T18) diff. The bolt pattern is identical. If you're lucky, even the stocker S-series might fit. Your other option is to go with the RT-142/ST-141 rear disk conversion.

Ah - be a bit wary with that.

I was going to suggest that you just convert it to ST141 rear disc, because they're actually pretty easily found (as opposed to MX1x /MX2x gear).

However I did have a quick squiz at the Toymods writeup on it to make sure it could be done for MX diffs and it seems that the axle offset / protrusion is different to RA40 / TE72 diffs

    Have a read of that.

What i'm getting at is that if you use TE72 backing plates (which will bolt up), the drums may not fit correctly.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?

Thanks Javal - I have had a read of that - And i was worried about the TE72 plates not allowing the drums to fit correctly - I'm going to try the backing plates i have and see if it will work before i commit to going that route.

The reason i'm after the original stuff is so that i can still run 13's with a decent handbrake.

Having already bought the Diff ($400, New Gears/ Bearings / Solid Pinon Spacer $500, and a New TRD 2-Way to Suit ~$1000 i really want to get this diff to work

If the TE72 option fails i'll be on the hunt for a Complete MX1X/MX2X for the Complete Diff

The rt-142/st141 disk conversion definitely works on mx13 diffs. Have done it on 2 mx13s and 1 mx23. Technically if that works, the drum setups should also fit. I am fairly confident that the drums will work. Worst case scenario, the backing plates can be shimmed out from the diff flange. The only way it will be a total fail is if the axle flange sits significantly closer to the diff tube flange (which I don't think is the case.)

    Eddie.

edit: actually, even in the second case, you could space the drum out on the inside. So you can make it work.
