My first thought would be the belt if you are saying it is 'squealing'.
Belts can slip even if they are tight if they are too worn - the ribs in the belt (ie small Vee's ( VVVVV )) are designed to only contact the pulley by the side of each 'Vee'. if the belt gets too worn then the pointy part of the Vee will touch the pulley which takes some of the force off the side of the Vee which allows the belt to slip. Since the belt is a ribbed belt with multiple small Vees, it only needs to wear 1/2 a millimeter before it will start slipping....so its very difficult to tell if its too worn.
Since the a replacement belt is a relatively small cost, id replace it as a first step - just to eliminate the belt as a potential cause.
