Shiny cam covers are shiny, looks awesome mate.
Got my w58 setup the other day (thanks Seamus!). Came with all the gear needed really, w58 to t50 bell housing adaptor plate, custom gearbox mount, pilot bearing spacer, even the front w58 driveshaft. I've heard roumors of people using the w58 front driveshaft and ae86 rear driveshaft to go to a t series diff. Can anyone confirm this?
Also anyone know who is the man on the goldy when it comes to changing the splines over on my clutch disc?
A bit has gone down, first post has been updated.
this shit is getting close.
Grant came over on the weekend to help with some stuff, in between crushing our hands, pulling engines off trailers wrong, burning ourselves/stuff with welders, breaking welders, eating KFC, having V-opt breaks, looking at my engine alot, driving my 31 round the yard, making fun of datsuns, Grant took some photos
here's my 'in the mean time' 31, dont worry I wont do a Josh Young and abandon the 86
This is pretty much how I hang out

this makes me very very happy man, but HURRY UP

Im in need of motivation, Ive been pouring so much effort and money into this thing. Im posting up progress so I can absorb the encouragement and continue on.
Ive had a fabricator stuff me around big time and in the end flip out from to much drugs or lack of drugs, parts take for ever to arrive, money come and go but mainly go, Ive started a new business which takes so much of my time, Im trying to keep surfing alot, but between work and this that hasn't been working out. So shit is taking for ever.
Some times I wish i just stuck to basic and didnt bother with all this shit, then again why not build the 86 I've always wanted, its only money right?
Anyway Ive been in the garage most nights of the week trying to get this thing painted. Ive been sourcing body parts from Japan to accommodate my new wheels (local business's are crap *cough savanna motorsport cough* they dont even return calls or follow up quotes)
Jesse Streeter has been a legend and ended up getting me these genuine guards for way less than any one locally and way less than the Australian origin distributor.
A nice fellow locally is sorting me out with these puppy's at a good price
Ive also got an origin front bar and side skirts on the way, cause, why not?
And here's the wheels I acquired that started all this extra body work business, 15x8.5 -12 meisters, I got a bargain at $1400 for the set.
I tried mega flaring the rears by cutting the inner guard and going to town with a hammer and dolly, I got it out as far as I could then re-welded the inner guard, I was happy with the look but still not happy with the fitment, it was not going to be functional, to close to the guard at the height I wanted so I thought "do it properly first time" and bought all the shit above. here's some pics
before mega flarage
Some of grants good pics
after and about 2 inches higher than I want it to be, so that was a waste of a week of work.
Im trying to do the body work properly so hopefully I dont have to do it again for a long time, some of the rust fixes I did just after I first got the car (2 yrs ago now) are looking average already, so Im stripping all the australian export off, grinding the bog off and starting again with clean metal. Ill weld in new bits where possible or fibreglass if not. All problem rust areas are going to get a KBS paint coating to deter future rust, then lots of bog, sand, bog, sand, bog etc.
Most of the metal bodywork is ready for paint, Im hoping the kit and guards dont require alot of work and can be sprayed pretty much as soon as they arrive.
Heres the what the engine bay is up to
And a few random shots
where the magic happens
After paint, I need to install the front half of the cage, put heaps of stuff back together minus most bolts and nuts which are surely lost by now. Get it wired and tuned, and then Im literally going to have an "86 is done party" to celebrate the saga that has been my 86 build, at which point I will probably drink most of a carton, tell everyone how awesome my car is and try to show them some skids out the front of mine, put it into a power pole and start the whole process again.
Thanks for the pics and write ups grant,
so much love for you and this car, now im getting so excited

yeh man keep at it. so close now. personally not a fan of bolt on guards but you gotta do what you gotta do.
nice pick up on the meisters to. i sold my 9j set for $2000 so you definitely got a good deal.
the only thing the engine bay is missing is a big tri strut brace similar to the one on my 86. where is you plenum from?
stroked 2L ca18-ae86 in the build...eta xmas 2012?
Shit just got real!
yeah very impressive. looks ace
