Who's done FC/RX7 brake conversion

I'm needing to upgrade my brakes very soon as I plan on running bigger boost soon, but I'm having a hard time deciding what to do. I've heard of the FC conversion here and there, but haven't actually seen or read any feedback from somebody that actually has the conversion.

For those of you running the conversion, is it worth it? How is the braking with this conversion?

super easy to do, simple bolt on coversion and they are BIG ASS brakes


if you wanna make the conversion cheaper pm me cos i have some rotors here that i got off ajps to use with mine, they are slotted and vented civic rotors that have been redrilled to 4x114.3, used for about a month, if that

can have em for cheap

if you do do it but i would deffinetly recomend changing the master cyl. r32 works best i hear, the pedal is way to stiff with the stock one

well i have about as much info as you can get for them i thik... and it goes like this...

you have 3 options for the rotors.
all of these options you need to re-drill the holes to bolt the rotor to the hub.

1.
EG civic rotor (262mm diameter, 20mm thick, 64mm centre hole)
EG civic rotors you need part number RDA474S
2.
Mini cooper s 99-05 model (276mm diameter, 22mm thick, 64mm centre hole)
Mini cooper rotors you need part number RDA7352S
3.
Mini Cooper s 05-09 model (294mm diameter, 22mm thick, 64mm centre hole)
Mini cooper rotors you need part number DBA4252 (4000 series)


You have 3 choice of brackets to adapt the caliper to suite the appropriate rotor.

1.
off AJPS for the 262mm rotor (minimum 14" wheel required)
2.
Custom made from plans on the net 276mm rotor (15" wheel required, may need spacer)
3.
User "rip it" sells adapter for 294mm rotor, or custom make yourself (15" wheel required)

Then you need your choice of series 5 or 6 calipers (should be rebuilt if 2nd hand)
New brake pads : RX7 FC caliper, pads to suit EBC greenstuff DP2763

Any braided ADR approved line to suite your standard brakes will work on the mazda cailiper.

And the last step is to upgrade brake master....

I have seen other variations than that too. I have seen one setup which had the rotors slipped over the hub. Was a terrible idea, meant you had to run well positive offset rims on the front.

A more simple solution over the RX7 setup is to get the Willwood brake kit. Everything you need is supplied and its designed for a factory master cylinder, which is in particular a great thing because it seems everybody has so much trouble getting an R32 one.

my adapters should com in the mail today,

and i am prob getting wholesale rotors (4000 series dba)
then ill price up callipers, 2nd hand or new, depending on price
fix it all up and do a tech article.

mine are the 294mm rotors too.... big suckers

Wilwood kit usually works out a bit cheaper, depends on the exchange rate at the time as they come from the US.

At the moment the Wilwood kit is a bit under $1000AUD, that's with 280mm rotors.

The RX7 brake conversion usually comes in at around $700 plus a master cylinder. I have heard of people paying BIG money for those nissan masters, $400-500 new. They can be had for a lot less second hand, IF you can find one.

I personally think that the Wilwood kit is a nicer solution, both for simplicity and effectiveness. And you're also getting all brand new gear but it depends what you're looking for I guess.

well it would have been nice to see this thread before doing my conversion

only catch is i need to replace my brake master anyway.....

and yes, cost price from nissan is $160 for a brake master... so i can imagine its alot more for retail, or trade even.

One of the best mods I ever did to my 86 was upgrade to these brakes,
I used a series 7 FD caliper with staggered pistons
MR2 SW21 turbo rear rotor 282mmx22mm and custom bracket JUST fits inside 15inch rim.

I run the 'terrible' setup of FC rotor over standard hub, with 15x7+0 wheels, no spacers. I can fit MA61 wheels no spacers. It's got to do with where you mount the caliper.

Sorry to spoil a good story with facts....oh, and cost me $380 for the first iteration of unknown pads, rotors, calipers and laser cutting the caliper bracket. I have had this for 4-5 years....terrible isn't it
