Is he for real?
As the title suggests I`m having issues finding some reasonable inserts for the front.
Anyone here know any good adjustable short stroke inserts for a reasonable penny?
Tokico HTS-102 was my primary consideration but these are no longer for sale and they have instead been replaced by some non-battle tested and ridicilously named "D-Spec" 16-way (or whatever) inserts that probably kills of strut towers faster than Ebisu Minami
I`m not looking for the hottest inverted bilsteins for 2000 dollahs because thats what I already have and steering-rack bushings were hanging around the rack dust-boots as a result of the driving conditions here
Nor do I need 3000 dollah Greddy S-type sup4h-l337 1000-way adjustables that shakes the car to pieces or anything (Roads here are VERY rough).
I just want the normal, durable, well-performing and kind-on-car 8-way adjustable`s thats been used, proven and battle-tested by the likes of Ueo etcetc over curbs at 150kph/over for decades now i.e adjust a few clicks, drift all day like a happy camper, fek some shit up and live life instead of redesigning the entire car into something it`s never meant to be![]()

Buy some shockworks. Check the site sponsor section.
Take alot of abuse
check out my build thread: http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/fo...-shuttle-wagon
Huh?
So, you don't want a setup that's stiffer (because we all know they destroy strut towersWTF!!! and shake the car to pieces

), yet you want something "battle-tested" by Ueo.....
I just had a brown unicorn that has no horn, the rarest off all unicorns, fly down from the sky and buy the last pair of "Ueo Battle'tested" shocks avaliable in the world........ Out of Stock.....

SW20 AGX Rear Shocks!
I could have quoted many here but this one takes the cake, I`m laughing to death here!
Well, the weeks spent searching has left me crazy so at the moment of the misdeed I was for real
Sorry for possibly belittling whatever great setups you all might be running, I`m sure you have got what works best for your conditions!
And I should have been way more specific.
Driving conditions are over-all bad enough here for Mercedes to boycott us at one time, and I`m not lying about the rack bushings that ended up hanging around at the tie rod boots, heck I know one kid who had to convert back to stock from coilovers because of the roads here, drive into one of the big cities and that stock setup is not kewl anymore.
I guess what I`m sayin` was the traditional and reasonable shocks that seems to work well are all but extinct
Kinnda can`t use coilovers w/stubs that are built from the ground up for ae86..
1. For once I`m on a budget.
2. Because I only need for the front at the moment.
3. Because my brakes can only be used with spindles that have OD17,5-OD29-OD40 outer diameter for the wheel bearings & hub grease seal + 4x64 squared caliper mounting surface on the stub, which is all quite a bit different from AE86.
The car IS an ae86, just hasnt got ae86 stubs thats all (Does have 85mm bolt-spaced ae86 knuckles tho).
I`ve got some rallydesign sleeves on the way, just need some good adjustable inserts that seemed to be going for so cheap only a few years back i.e HTS102/TRD`s etc, the plan is basically to just experiment with springs till I find what works for the roads here instead of going uber-expensive right off the boot with something that is probably perfect for the track may not suit the daily to-from conditions
Don`t get me wrong, I still want short stroke and I know the TRD`s can still be bought for a reasonable penny ala these:
(Now you know the price range I`m looking at).
Just not sure if the 5-way race inserts or 4-way street/track/drift inserts is what I need, the HTS`s has simply got more adjustment so was hoping that`d work with springs on the slightly softer side (Around 4-5kg`s) for a little bit of comfort without sacrificing too much performance at the track (I.e swap springs at the track).
But when it all comes down to it maybe I`m simply better left with the TRD`s?

Set the car up on one set of springs and adjust with anti-roll bars and damper settings.I would suggest using the softest springs you can get away with for track work (4kg ?) I have the TRD 4 way adjustable full length dampers with slightly softer springs than 4kg and I can't fault them for tarmac rallying in the U.K

Nice setup totta!
I hear so much about how better the TRD`s are than the usually more expensive Bilsteins too (Minus the PROPER ones built by AJPS, them guys knows what theyre doing!)
You`re right about the 4kg springs, I`ve been driving my TA40 wagon locally for a couple of years now and the OEM front springs (Which are 2.5kg I think) are a few kg too soft (And the dampening rates a bit too slacky), so the 5-way short strokes with 4kg springs might be the best bang for buck I can get in that price-range then![]()
