What diff? The gears will be fine to reuse... you need another centre. It'll take anywhere between 1-3h or so in labour plus parts. May or may not need new carrier bearings.
I'm just wondering what the cost would be to replace a welded diff for passing a pit inspection? Am I able to get a mechanic to put in new diff gears fairly cheaply? Thanks in advance for the help.

4agte finally finished. 252rwkw with more to come
Depending what diff you have makes it either a quick job or pain in the arse. Ae86 diff centers can be in and out in about an hour.
You just drain the oil out of the diff, undo the axle bolts pull them out about 10cm, undo the center bolts and lift it out.
Borg warner aka ke70 , ae71 diffs are a bit more effort

It's is an S series off a JDM AE86. In all honesty, what would be the chances of passing a pit inspection with the diff welded? My mechanic seems to think it will be fine (he will be taking it over).
Depends on who is doing the inspection, but you could just say it is a limited slip diff and chance it.

Are you sure it's s series? It's either not an s series or it's not a JDM car since they came with t series.
