Default The fluids & oil question...

Maybe I have had a man look like the Mr's says about everything I apparently search for....but I did a basic search and some trawling on oils to use car wide....found not much.

20V Black top with warm mods, anyone got preference on oil brand and oil specs of what works for track use along with filter brands (running oil cooler and high flow pump/catch can etc)?
Next on the list is gearbox oil, T50. I read ages back some were having issues with different brands of gearbox oil....again anyone got suggestions?
Finally, Diff oil. Toyota LSD, track use, what are we using mostly?

Break fluid wise I was going to go with the motul high temp end.....maybe change out the pads while there but they are about half way through so the can't be arsed factor is moderate (till I squeeze the breaks that first time turn 1).
Radiator wise, I was looking to flush and place in something more suited to Aust conditions than the Jap fluids currently on board.

In use for sprints, circuit and maybe motorkarnz but not drift.

I have used Penrite HPR10 or 15, and they are quite good. If you're happy to spend a bit more the full synthetic Penrite 10/10th Racing 5 is a little more stable in regards to oil temp and has a bit of extra shear protection also which is what I use and highly recommend.

For the box most synthetic 75w-80 to 80w-90 oils are fine, again I use Penrite but others like Nulon and Castrol work fine also. For the diff I've always used Motul or Penrite, if the diff is a little clunky or noisy the Penrite anti-noise additive works wonders too.

Oil is a personal thing which always people will recommend what works for them. I have used the repco branded oil (apparently penrite) cos i have a 200L drum, for the past few months weighted 10w30 in my 20v and find it to rev more freely than the 15w40 weights.

Toyota genuine filters are very good, but also on the exy side. Pending change duration, ryco etc aren't bad. Oil cooler wise i don't run one on the 20v, and have never had an issue. My vvti 1jzgte doesn't run one either and has never overheated.

Gearbox oil i run castrol vmx80

Diff oil , castrol again, not sure of the brand, but make sure u get LSD oil.

Always used Penrite, will switch to their 10 Tenths racing stuff for my next change as its doesnt mix with E85.

Gbox oil, just use penrite too. Nulon also are very good as are Royal Purple ($$$)

As long as you are using a reputable brand i would make sure its changed regularly of course, thats the most important thing. The better quality oil you buy will last for longer under stress so you can extend your service intervals.

You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?

    Thanks mate,

Yeah price is no issue, just want the best fluids to suit the combo.
I've been using the Penrite full syn in the road vehicle and it does the job well.

How often race wise are you changing fluids? I used to just do it after a certain amount of hours logged engine time with the bike.

All my cars have been road cars, whenever I did a track day I just changed the oils before hand. I changed them every 3-4000kms generally or more often if I did a couple of hill climbs etc.

Asking about oils is a religious question. My basic thought is that change frequency is more important than "quality". 4As tend to be pretty good with oil too, I've run mine dangerously low and/or incredibly hot many times over the course of about 5 years without problem (not smart, but nor did it end catastrophically).

    ^^ Yep very good advice...

The carbon from combustion makes the oil go black and hence the change frequency is lower, but every 6-7 thousand kms would be the lowest change frequency i'd go to.

Gearbox oil / diff oil, given there is no combustion don't need to be changed anywhere near as regularly.

Oil choice is such a subjective thing and really does anyone get their oil tested to see if it has performed, I've just always used a more expensive oil hoping that I was paying for extra and enhanced additives, I have always used very low change intervals, so realistically I probably could of got away with near anything! In the past I have had very good experiences with Penrite, no sludging etc. For probably about 10 years or so I have been using Royal Purple and the engines seem to always be very clean internally etc.

For brake/clutch fluid I have been using Motul RBF600 for a very long time, probably about 15 years and have never had any problems.

In mechanical LSD's I like Castrol SAF-XA, again it seems to work well and not break down quickly, I have had LSD oils that break down in a very short period of time so the extra cost of SAF-XA is worth it.

I have found Redline gearbox oils to work well.

    Again they are subjective comments.
