    Default 2.4 liter swap

    Hello all
Hoping this is the right place for this just looking for some info. I just was given a 85 corolla that is being shipped from texas and arriving next sunday. My friend told me the engine is a 2.4 liter out of a 95 tacoma. The rear end and trans is from the truck as well. I am new to toyota always been a s13 guy. So I was wondering is this a common swap or should I be looking to replace it sometime down the road. My buddy does not know much about cars so he pays others to do for him. He can not give me much info on it. Trying to get info before it arrives lol thanks

So. Thats probably a 22r. Its unlikely to be a 2rz. So that means you should replace it if you want something sportier. They are a grunty yet truckish motor. Not really inclined to rev and a simple head design. Grunty more than revvy or sporty feeling. That said you can buy aftermarket parts for sfa in the US for the 22r due to their presence in many off road cars that get heavily modified. Have a google, there are a few sources of built heads and engines there. If the mileage of it is high you might be best to keep trans and diff and look for a 3sge or 3rz conversion for it.

I think the motor is a 2rz from the pics i have seen online. The motor only has 13k since the rebuild. Trying to get what if anything was done to the internals during the rebuild. I am assuming the motor mounts had to be changed. Wondering how bad it was to put the rear end in. Hoping it is not all crappy welding under the car. Good thing is the car has always been in texas so no rust.

I wouldn't say its a common swap, but has certainly been done before after doing a quick google search (assuming it is a 2rz as you have said)

LittleREedSpirits comments regarding the 22r ring true for the 2rz as well. If its already in there and rebuilt I probably wouldn't go pulling it out, but if you look around the forums for prerunners/desert racers you will find plenty of information and manufacturers who can make the thing go a bit harder. Its never going to rev like a 4age, but will have gobs of torque and possibly be a quicker thing in the real world

I wouldn't say never. Stock it won't rev much, but it has an 86mm stroke (same as 3sg and most 2 litre engines), same rod/stroke ratio as a 4age and possibly the largest valve area of any 4 cylinder engine ever made.

Really? Well there you go. 2.4L plus the ability to rev to 8000rpm would be pretty amazing

2rz is a little revier than a 3rz. Same bore shorter stroke. Should be win.

Dont like the wheels but it looks like an rz engine. If its 2.4 it must be the 2rz, you could bolt in a 2.7 litre 3rz if you wanted and it was road legal, or you can work the 2/3rz engine hard aswell. They have been known to make impressive HP when boosted in stock form. Kinda like a 4 cylinder 2j in that regards. They are pretty bomb proof. If you google it there are a lot of people with rz conversions in the US, and they have some pretty good drag numbers.

I am still happy I am getting it for free lol. Just have to pay the shipping which is 600 bucks. Hell the racing seats are worth that lol. Car has not ran in 6 months hoping easy fix. Then the fun begins. Going to drive it and see where to go from there. Was told the internals from the 2rz are more turbo ready then the ones in the 3 so probably sticking with that.
