AE86 20V Silvertop Engine Blueslip?

hey all currently got a registered(NSW) 86 that had a 4ac inside, recently did the 20v ST conversion with a aftermarket microtech ecu, just curious as would it need to have an engineer certificate or just engine numbers transferred for the blue slip?

Tried searching around but all people talked about was the 4age 16v into the 86 process.

Technically you need an eng cert but there are others that will argue that a 4a block is a 4a block. I wouldn't bank on that holding up though. NSW is pretty strict on these things. You'll have to get an engineer that will be happy with a programmable ecu as well.

I would imagine you would need it engineered and with the aftermarket ECU you're going to have a very bad time with getting it on the road legitimately. I'm sure there are ways around this however...

yeah wish i just put in a 4age 16v would of been alot easier.

From a certification point of view it does not make any difference 16v vs 20v as they are both considered a performance engine with more that 20% increase in power.
What year is the vehicle? This is going to impact on the emissions requirements for the engine change. Other than that the engine conversion is straight forward and so long as you have done it properly there should be no issues. Most engineers would want to see a JDM brake upgrade though as a minimum to deal with the extra power.

If you need an emissions test, make sure your tuner does a road tune, especially with the Microtech. I had to switch to e85 to get my emissions to pass. The Microtech has crappy tuning resolution which makes it hard to get it perfect. Make sure fuel cut on decel is fully tuned as well. It will help.
