    Default 4AGE Intake Piping Diameter

    Hi guys,

I asked this question in another thread but it was all the way down the bottom of the thread by the time I got to it.

According to the stuff posted in this page:

the 4age 16v standard throttle body valve diameter is 55mm (2.1 ish inches)

My question is, what diameter of piping should I use to connect my pod/airbox to my throttle body?
Simple stuff, but I've struggled quite a lot to find an answer to this question! It seems most places sell 3, 2.7 and 2.5 inch intake hoses and I want to make sure I get the right one!

    Thanks!

Doesn't matter that much. It'll be fine as long as it's bigger than throttle body size. Stick to close to TB size so 2.25" for the reasons listed below. Is 55mm butterfly OD or TB OD?

FWIW, the bigger the pipe, the lower the velocity and lower the pressure drop across the pipe. But by having (sharp) transitions, you upset the flow (create swirls) which is a pressure drop.

55mm is butterfly OD I'm pretty sure. I'm just after something that's roughly the same size as the standard intake piping.

2"1/4 with mandrel bends is what i'd use...

Tho 2 1/2 will be ok if u have a reducer on the throttle body.

Go 3 inch. This will most likely be the size of the pod filter you are using. Intake velocity before the throttle body doesn't mean shit.
