Default import my ae86 from eu?

    hello to all..
iv just moved back frm ireland have been ther since 2012..built up a rough 87 2dr trueno the last few months before i left,i had owned it since late 2012..anybody tell me what hassle id hav if i imported it?rather than buy one here.the car was in my name initially then my fathers name the last few months as i was leaving..i should have some exemptions from compliance seeing as iv owned the car over 12months?and also whos a good compliance company in Vic for importing Cars?
just trying to weigh up options.
    thanks!

All you'll need for compliance once you have it here is seat belts, side intrusion bars in the doors if it doesn't have them already and the relevant stickers like tyre placard etc. Then just a normal roadworthy and then rego. Shipping wise I'm not sure, I used ProK in Narre Warren to bring mine in from Japan and he was very reasonable price wise.

As to whether you would get any special concession I have no idea, and you would need to pull the cage out for compliance and the roadworthy and put back in later on. Looks like a really nice clean car, so should breeze through.

Also put std suss gear in to be safe....I think now ib your dads name it might be a lil more difficult. If it was in your own name still would be alot easier. But im just speculating alot of bd red tape here

thats what i was thinkin..ther aint one standard part left on her really and iv stripped all the interior from the front seats back..i heard before i could import it as a personal car and possibly not even need compliance as iv owned it and drove it for over a year already.this what i was hoping as id imajin it would b hard to comply..spose il have to dig more to find out for sure

I was under that impression aswell being a personal import its exempt from compliance.
Never looked into it so dont know if its valid or just hear say

if you chose to import it as a personal import you do not need to comply it with SEVS.
However there is no reason you would apply for a personal import for it as compliance under the pre 1989 rule is very easy.
If you google importing pre 1989 vehicle lots of information will come up. Just need to find a lenient engineer in your state.
