What symptoms does the engine have?, if it was an overheating related failure the head may require machining as well. Having a copy of the 4AGE manual handy will be greatly beneficial also.
Hi guys
I am 90% sure that i have a blown head gasket on my 86 and I would like to change it but going to a repair shop is a bit expensive right now and im keen as hell to learn how to do it myself the problem is i don't have space under my house and having my father pass away recently there is no one to help move every thing also not having any practical experience and it being my daily i need it back on the road to get to work and back. So the question is. Is there anyone that would be all good with lending some of there time, knowledge and tools for a weekend to help me change it?
ps. Beer will be supplied![]()
Thanks have a good day![]()

Love the pic, as the above post said if the bhg was the result of overheating you should definitely have the head checked on by a engine shop, im hoping some brisbane locals are willing to help, its a relatively easy job and a fun one to do with mates while drinking piss.

I would get a spare head and get that machined if you want to do it over a weekend, would be a pain if you pull it all apart to find the head is warped and all the machine shops are closed. That way you can gain a little extra compression at the same time, which will help with mid-range torque and get a small power gain to go with a healthier engine.
yeah it overheated. it has white milky stuff in the over flow and the when the rad is full it blows white smoke till the water level drops down to just over half full. I had a 4age manual downloaded but i cant find cos my computer is a mess with stuff
thanks mani really hope so too. I would love to go back to driving her normally again not like a nana hahaha

Do this. Save to get a head rebuilt so you can just swap them over instead of waiting for it to come back from the shop. Buy a vrs kit then look at pulling it apart. Where are you in brisbane?
