Default curious if anyone has tried running power steering and super short modified knuckles

    hi all

I've just purchased a levin coupe with ps and was going to go through the process of converting it back to manual rack but was curious to hear if anyone has run modified knuckles (significantly shorter than the std ps knuckles) with power steering and did it work?

results I'm after are more lock of course but also a better feel to the road with a firmer steering due to less leverage from shorter knuckles

i know you can't have your cake and eat it too but I'm thinking it would be extremely twitchy at the length required to get the results I'm after, and no doubt other complications like tie rod end bottoming out on the control arm and therefor not a lot of lock gained, a lot of load on parts at that short a length too but I'm sure someones tried something, did it work?

    cheers

I haven't done it but your right that it'll be twitchy as fk.
Delete pwr steering but keep the rack, grease it up, shortened steering arms with lock spacers, dial castor arms should be a good setup for your needs.
Pretty much the same setup as james has on here

I had thought of looping the lines or something similar to delete the ps but does the rack accommodate the lock spacers? Enough teeth on the rack? Il check his build thread, thanks for the heads up!

Don't loop the lines, will be really heavy as you still have to force all he fluid around. If you don't want to swap the cross-member and rack to a manual one you need to tear the rack down and remove all the valves and seals, then just grease the internals and plug the holes for the lines with bolts.

Shorter steering arms with the P/S isn't that twitchy though, basically the same as manual steering with a quaife quick rack.

    Ok sweet thanks for that,
Are you running std ps knuckles or shorter?
does it still give the extra lock I'm chasing? Can you run a lock spacer & shims or does the rack run out of teeth?
