Default 20v na vs 20v turbo.

I've got a turbo 20V fitted to my AE86, rebuilt engine, Arias pistons, Crower rods, GT28RS, didn't go too nuts on the turbo size as I didn't want lag. Was running an MX5 6 speed(3.760, 2.269, 1.646, 1.257, 1.00, 0.843) for years but just bought a Quaife sequential 6 speed with really close gears(2.400, 1.842, 1.482, 1.260, 1.104, 1.00), so should well and truly keep it on the boil. The NA 20V was good with the standard T-50/4.3 diff gears, changing to 4.778 diff gears made it really nice, changing to MX5 6 speed and 4.778 was fantastic, it was really fast for an NA. Turbo just has more torque/power everywhere.

I have driven a high power turbo 20V and have long term experience with non turbo 20V engines. The turbo engine pushed me back in my seat, was seriously quick and fun but it's not something I prefer peronsally. The reason being is that even though it's so much slower everywhere without boost I like the feeling of driving a car while keeping it in a high rev power band and being able to stab the throttle to balance it.

This means to get your answer you really need to have experience with both and not be taken in by the intial rush of the extra speed. That said though I know what I feel is the exception compared to most.

Having a turbo would make it a whole lot easier and cheaper for me to build an engine which is ironic.
