Head gasket blow? Oil doesn't look like a milkshake does it?
So I thought I would post here in hope someone could help me out as I am rather confused
Last week, driving along, nothing big just the usual 2,000RPM shifts and suddenly the temperature guage jumps to the hottest setting. Engine over heated and started dripping coolant. Managed to get it home all safe though.
First thing I thought was check the thermostat, however I can't find one at all. From looking at the engine I could only guess is was in the bottom water housing. Is this right?
I only ask this as I cannot find the thermostat at all in the bottom water housing. I find this odd as the engine has been holding its temperature great up till just last week. Is this possible or am I missing something obvious?
Cheers Fusion
Will double check the oil, cheers
But still wondering about the thermostat, I thought it would of had one for sure with how its been running
Why would you check the thermostat first? You wouldn't.
First - check your coolant level
Second - find your coolant leak if it is low
Third - fix it. Make sure engine reaches operating temperature, no air in the system and that the thermostat is opening.
Fourth - if symptoms persist, check temperature difference across radiator.
That's about as hard as troubleshooting a 4AC cooling system gets.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?
if the coolant is leaking find the leak then seal it when you fill it up again make sure you bleed all the air out thouroghly it makes a big difference
Ah Javal I had checked all those. Should of pointed that out. Coolant pretty much went pretty quickly. I checked the thermostat first as it seemed odd for it to suddenly happen, when I knew it had been going great up till than.
I am going to reseal it all, get the radiator checked out, buy new hoses and actually install a thermostat, because as far as I can see . . . the car never came with a thermostat from the old owner.
The thermostat is in the inlet housing. It would be weird for it to suddenly do it if it has never had one installed, as it would probably always do that. It might have failed, or the radiator might have a problem (I'm guessing), so its good that you're getting it checked.
4AGE is here! Cheers 44GTE and Anthony for your help! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/fo...ad.php?t=10384
