Default Engine running Hella rich Lots of soot

    Car: AE86 SR5 (4AGE Converted)

    Engine : 4AGE 16v out of an 89 MR2

Problem: I swapped out a 4AC for a 16V 4AGE out of a MR2. All stock except the intake and the FPR, Runs strong except that it dumps fuel like crazy. The car reeks of gasoline, sooty spark plugs, sooty exhaust, hard starting when warm, not to mention horrible gas mileage. Now i do have a walbro fuel pump running in line, not sure what the specs are but i kno that its dumping fuel into the engine. So do I change the pump, or the injectors? Or something else? Any suggestions?

Sometimes i'll get somewhere, run a quick errand and the car won't start this usually happens when it's warm. I'll play with the FPR, and she eventually fires up. This probaby stems from the rich running engine issue but im not sure, what does it sound like to you guys.

I'd start by measuring what psi your fuel pressure is. If it is too high your car will run really rich.

A common cause of high pressure is if the car has been sitting for a while the return line can block, blowing it out with compressed air sometimes frees it up.

depending on the size/ flow of the walbro it could be to much for the stock pressure regulator to handle.

start by checking those and let us know how you go. Faulty air flow meters or map sensors can also cause the same problems

Thanks for the reply. Im gonna order a fuel pressure gauge. I'll install it and get the specs for the engine. I have a aftermarket adjustable regulator. Im a truck driver so i probably won't be home to fiddle around with it untill this weekend.

Another problem I have, my crank pulley pretty much fell apart and the alternator belt slipped off so now imma need a new battery, pulley, and belt. I pretty much have a handle on that.

I can't really say. It had a blown headgasket but it was rebuilt from that. Besides the fuel issue it runs well.
