Ford Territory the XR6 Turbo one. Mate has one and it hammers
Hey guys,
I am looking to buy a car that is a bit more capable of towing, lets say 2T towing capacity or better, BUT I am not going to buy a car and pay another set of insurance and rego just to be used to tow the race car to and from the track. So if I go ahead with this, the car will also be my daily and as such I don't want a car that sucks or is completely boring.
What would suck:
-Being an enormous 4WD looking thing
-Being slow and/or uninspiring
-Being automatic
-Being a commodore or falcon
-Not being daily material, ie not having Aircon etc
-Getting 15L/100km or similar
In a perfect would I would have a 86 or S15 or something that magically had a 2T towing capacity, but that isn't going to happen. Surely Im not the first person ever to have a track car and want a fun daily that can also take it to the track
Any help/ suggestions would be rad,
Cheers
-Robbo

My dream is the VW passat R36, it's twin turbo 3.6L v6 4wd and it's a wagon so practical as fuck, looks are 8/10 has all of the newish car niceness on the inside and will shit on most hoons at the lights, just a little out of my price range atm at like $30k second hand
R36 is non turbo, my brother in law has one. Its a sweet car to drive though. 220kw and launch control. Nice

Neither does 1uz 1980's hiluxes, but i think he's looking more for something that is stock and capable
Yeah, prefer something relatively stock and modern. I have been spoiled by the creature comforts in the GTS 86. This won't happen for another 10-12 months, but I want to get my eye in so that I know what a good deal is by the time to actual hand over cash.
The problem with looking at non-SUV/4WD type cars is that some times they are listed as quite capable of towing on things like redbook/carsales but then the manufacturer denies that they car tow at all. I would hate to spend serious coin on a sedan or wagon and then hitch the trailer just to find that it sags like a bitch and hates life dragging my other car around.
For example an E60 M5 is listed as 2T towing but I have only seen one picture of a tow bar fitted and to be honest it looked quite ummmmmmm lets say phallic to be nice
E60 550i might be a better idea and has better fuel economy (though its still pretty bad) but still has a chunky motor.
There are also Audi options that are pretty mental like S8 which has a V10 Lambo motor in it... 300k new found a relatively low km 06 model for under 50. Problem then is maintenance schedule killing me
More realistic option would be something like Volvo S80 which is a 3L turbo 6 and they are around 28-30k for the same sort of age and kms, but so much more bland...
Would be nice to have more jap options.
I think I need to go around and test drive some of these things

It looks like your price range is a bit different from most of ours, if you have that sort of money range to play with get yourself some nice every day car & just get a cheapish tow car too, if you get a tow car over 25 years old, ( assuming WA club rego is the same as its in here in Vic its then eligible for club rego ) & then put the tow car on club rego, it then turns out to be very cheap to register it every year ..
Diesel Hilux ute would be a good tow car ..

Fair enough Rob.
TBH looking at 50k dailies are just day dreams I guess.
The ZN6 I have is on a lease. So once the lease runs out I am planning on selling to finance a towcar/daily. From memory the residual value was around 13k should be able to sell the car for 25 to 30 if they keep holding their value as they are now. so I would be ahead by about 12-17k. The rest would likely come from the bank, so I guess 30 is about the limit.
So yeah, 50k is kinda BS
As for multiple cars... lets just say I can't do that due to other restrictions.
I am still keen to hear ideas great and small on a car that can fill both jobs if people have them.
Having said that I can't afford to buy some of these cars, I still plan to go and test drive them(all from dealers of course)
