    Default removing 4a-c

    Hey guys

about to rip out a 4a-c from a ae71, quick question can i leave the gear box attached and remove both in one shot? or is it better to split them while still in the car?

should be able to get motor and box out without to many problems.

i guess it depends if u need to take the box out or not, if you have to take it out then yeh take em out together, if not it would be just easier to leave the box in there and lift the engine straight out

Definitely leave the box attached, done it so many times and its the way to go.

There is 1 bolt on the bellhousing which is a real prick to get at whilst its all still in car, so its much easier just to pull the whole lot out in one go.

You'll just need to put you crane chain/strap on a pretty crazy angle so that it comes out without getting stuck.

oh man, 4-ac is the greatest engine to remove (2nd only to 4kc)

there is SSOOOOOO much room in the engine bay, i think me and my mate had a 4ac out in like 45mins.

Take the gbox out with the engine, those bell housing bolts are a pain in the butt to undo. just becareful as you will drop the oil out of your gbox though (unless you have a plug of some kind). ive thought about leaving the front half of the tailshaft in and sorta attaching it somehow, that might work also.

4ac/4age are so light that it doesnt really matter where you put the crane, you can monouver them around real easy once they are airborne. just put it somewhere in the middle of the engine, wrap some rope/chain around the manifolds and it will work out good.
