What is this hose? [4ac motor]

Hey guys,

Just wondering what this hose is on my 4ac? it runs from the air intake to the head i think (can quite see). Its broken in two places, could i just tape it up? or is it something important? thought it might be a breather hose or something?

Also not sure if related but there is an oily residue build up on the inside of my air filter?

The convoluted alloy hose? It's just a intake air heater pipe, won't make any difference if it has a few small cracks in it.

That hose is an early form of egr. Id be replacing it or your monoxide is going to escape the system. Depends if you like napping or not.

Had to replace mine for rwc in vic, supercheapauto use to sell generic ones

Mine was non existent and ran fine

just tapped it up for now so we will see when i go for road worthy

i just took mine off, felt so much better
