BENT MECHANIX - Garage 20:
yeah first paintjob took ages. and wasn't happy.
i've had such a shit fight with the engine bay i figured to ensure a quality finish i needed to start over.
for the moment i've had two deliveries today!
this one will be the centre piece for my custom boot skin covering.
and this will ensure my 9000rpm limiter won't cause engine failure!

some more progress shots..
stripped back
and some seam welding done
in etch primer.
first step of smoothing. metal mend fibreglass.
hopefully get other side done tomorrow. then all i got left to strip is the back of the front panel and a little bit
more of the firewall. YAY!!!
love your work...
truely epic.
update.
my gasket kit arrived today... full of toyota goodness.!!
did some more work on the bay smoothing.
sat down and planned out my engine build..
. ARP rod bolts
. ARP main studs
. ARP head studs
. ARP flywheel bolts
. Fully balanced bottom end with gze pistons
. ACL race bearings
. Supertech Valves 1mm oversize + valve springs + titanium retainers
. Intake ported
. Exhaust ported
. need some more research into cams... may leave em stock.
. TODA metal HG 0.8mm.
. At this stage i believe i'll be using an EMS computer. have one sourced still trying to decide if its gonna be good enough.
. 30mm trumpet inside custom plenum
. Td-04/05 turbro on custom turbo manifold.
. tomei crank cap ladders
about as fas as i've gotten. but should be a tough engine.
thanks man much appreciated!!
some random side shots of the car.. all in primer.
smoothing progress
still more smoothing to do. more updates to come on that i've done more but nothing really photo worthy yet.
now since i've flaird my rear guard i need to flare my fronts. so today i got a crappy panel and gave it a go.
turns out its quite easy!
rear guard.
front... need at least another 20mm
marked the cuts out (note how they get smaller... this will help to retain the bodylines and provide a smooth transition.
and cut
bend em out a bit till you get your desired flare. tack weld then full weld.
grind smooth.
onece they are all done figreglass it and prime and prep it so its smooth for paint.
only a test panel so i won't be doing the smoothing. but yeah thats todays progress.
