    Default Oils aint Oils!

This question always comes up, which oil is best?

I found these two videos from V&E Perfomance.
They test 5 Different Oils on two different cars, and they show the difference the oil makes.
    The 5 oils are
    -Motul
    -Royal Purple
    -Nulon
    -Castrol
    -Mobil

    Evo test

    Hsv test

This test may or may not justify the oil as the test doesnt allow the oil to break down its additives over time, to determine whether or not this has any bearing on performance.
And doesnt give much of an insight which oil is best suited for 5000kms at a time.

But all in all, i reckon it was a good test.

    Whats your oil?

not much to add, everyone always has their preference, but i feel sometimes people can get carried away running an oil thats too thin.

Im a fan of semi synth. Mostly use penrite or castrol edge, what evers good value for money at the time.

you always hear horror stories but never the whole story.

I know a guy who passed recently sadly, but he drove a subaru leone around australia, when it already had 150k on the clock, travelled another 35k using lamb fat as oil in his engine, when he camped for the night he would drain it out into metal tins so it didnt solidify in the motor, heat it up in the morning over a fire and pour it back it and go on his way, only to repeat the process many more times.

To try to be fair, they did to engine flushes before putting in the new oil, but like what you said... This test cannot justify which oil is better...

I am still sticking with Mobil Engine Oil myself as that is what I got in both my cars atm.

This test was also posted on Skylines Australia.

yeah about the fan being closer and futher, i really cant see how that can justify 10kw or so, those fans do push out a huge amount of air from any distance.

i dont think V&E done that purposely, my belief is that way to many people analyize every aspect and that didnt affect the readings?!

Doesn't prove how good the oil is at actually doing its job which is protecting your engine.

Thinner oils will always make more power due to less friction.

    Pointless test.

^^Yeah, true, also depending on the additives in the oil...

About the fans distance, it is probably minor, but every bit counts...

There was talk that Nulon had 'paid' for the test (Don't quote me on it tho...)

People's opinion of oils is so subjective, just like the cars they own/like, people will have a preference to certain oils, probably based on marketing, I guess the only way is to try an oil get it analysed and then go from there. I have been using Royal Purple 10W-40 in my AE111 for a few years now and have no problems, so I'll keep using it.

I use Redline trans oils and have found the gearboxes to be noticeably better shifting.
