Default Wheels that clear 4 piston brakes.

    Hey everyone,

I was just hoping to get a bit of a resource together that shows which wheels have a design which can clear 4 piston brakes on AE86 struts. Preferably without spacers.

What Do you do to make your front wheels clear the 4 piston calipers?

Im talking about spoke clearance, not diameter.

So if you have FC or TTT brakes, perhaps even Hoppers Stoppers, Greddy 6 piston or volvo calipers that stick out further toward the spoke area of the wheel, what setup do you have to run to clear them.

    Ill get the ball rolling.

I have SSR MK3s and they dont clear 4 piston brakes very well. Also My Performace meshies didnt clear them either.

Theres two wheels I know of with a fair step from the mounting face to the spokes.

    1. SSR MK2R look to me like they would clear big calipers.
    2. I have some wheels I never heard of. Monobox or something, 15x7.5 +20 or so, that have a decent step. they clear my Wilwood calipers, but I have to run spacers to clear the strut as the tyre rubs, not the rim. See picture:

They have a 12 or 13mm step from the hub face to the spoke material which helps alot with clearance.

you are after what they call the "X Factor" or caliper clearance. performance state this in their specs.. well i asume they do because its on their site.
superlights and watanabes are your best pic i think.
meshies, like u said dreaming, if u jig around your rotor/LCA combo and make a custom bracket u can get around this.. im setting up R32 gtst calipers all round..
its the only way around it unless u wanna run +ve offset wheels.

Be careful with Superlights. It varies from model to model (eg 15x6, 15x7 and 15x8 all differ) and possibly year too. My old 15x6 Superlights from maybe 2002 had SFA X factor (6-7mm only). So check carefully.

MX73 wheels with the stacks of small radial "spokes" have heaps of caliper space.

ok this is good, Im sure there must be others out there.

ill write it up into a do clear and dont clear list once we get enough responses.

Then it can go in tech articles.

i would think that all the work equips and SSR MK series wont be any good, Longchamps may work.. im just thinking of the wheel design here in my head..
^ Hen thanks for that.. thats a great tip about superlites!

15x8.5 Watanabes have no clearance and nor do SSR Mesh in 15x 7.5 -7 (obvious that one) running a spacer with both wheels over FC Calipers.

I know the Rota Grid 16x8 +10 DO clear RX7 FC Calipers

my various ssr and volk mesh 14x8 - 14 x 9 of various offsets clear hilux calipers,

something to roll around the ole noggin, AFAIK the t18 struts have a hub with slightly more spacing, so could negate the need for a spacer, this is a rumor,

i know for fact though, that if you are running xt130 struts rt hubs give more clearance for calipers. i think ra60 hubs are the same as rt.

te37 clear well, my performance challengers i had a while back cleared well too.
