shiny!
Well I picked her up this arvo... and the news isnt good. Motors gotta come out and have the bottom end rebuilt.
Because it was running so rich, it's glazed the bored and tempered the rings.... now they're fucked.
Made 80rwkw's, on base timing and cam gears still set at 0, with a 8000rpm limiter. It's breathing a fuckload of oil, so much that it pressurized the sump and blew the dipstick out, and most of the oil in the sump, all over the car, the dyno cell, and Shaun.
Head is coming off, bottom end disassembled, block being honed and Decked, everything cleaned, new bearings, New rings, possibly new pistons to get the comp a few points higher.
Shaun said apart from the rings, it's a strong engine, was making over 200NM of torque, revving smooth as and easy as to smash the limiter.
Im still pretty fucking pissed off, but i guess it's part and parcel of owning a modified car. There aint a lot I can do apart from fix it and get on with life.
Any suggestions as to some changes I should make while the engines apart?
As a side note.... my tyres didnt arrive either... but these did...

It's just a TRD sticker with black paint over it
Sucks to hear about ur engine troubles. Hope u have it sorted and on the road soon.
hahahahaha.... thats pretty fucking funny. Fooled me.
Well, there ya go.
Hopefully be back on the road in a month or so....
get the bottom end fully balanced, lightened, and blueprinted (send crank, pulley and flywheel/cutch to be balanced as 1 whole unit. 5kg of the crank = 100kg out of car (1:20) Will rev like no tomorrow
Yeah cool... Ill talk to shaun on monday about that.... Cheers.
Would bumping up then compression a little be a good idea too? Shaun said it's still got plenty of timing left in it and could handle a few points higher on pump fuel.
Im most probably going to leave the head how it is, just get the rotating assembly balanced (And possibly lightened as above), but stick with stock rods and pistons, new ARP rod bolts, new rings, and put it all back together with new water pump and oil pump with the spring re-tensioned for a bit more pressure.
if you can still get more timing in on pump fuel and not have it pinging as is then why not go for a little more CR. The higher the better in my opninon. My 3s had about 10.6:1 static which is nothing - shoot for 11s! Do you have cams, springs and gears already done in the head? Theres no real need to upgrade the rods as there's no boost in the equation. the gze rods are the same as 20v rods etc anyway, same thing.
