KE70 - K40 to K50 conversion!

So basically..

Got a KE70, being used as a daily soon. Had a look at the build plate, and it says K40 gearbox. The old owner, after rebuilding and freshening up the engine, put in a K50 5 speed box. After pulling out the carpet, I found a nice sketchy plate covering a decent hole in the transmission tunnel.

So my assumption is that the 5 speed box is shorter than the 4 speed. Is there any way that I can get the shifter of the 5 speed to line up into the shifter hole somehow? Would this make it hard to pass a blue slip/roadworthy?

2 types of extension housings on the Kx0 boxes.

Short one suits the older corollas (< KE70)
Longer one for the KE70.

Can be swapped between gear boxes. As your 5 speed is shorter, its a 5 speed from an earlier model, and the person who did it didn't swap to the longer rear extension housing. Thus, you have the shifter closer to the dash.

Easy way to go to the factory KE70 location is to either swap whole gearbox for another one that suits a KE70, or just find a long extension housing from an old k40 or k50 and put it on yours.
