hey guys.

Car - ae86

motor - jap 4age with kouki 2way diff

use - daily/drift

problem - diff makes wierd noise and im sure it didnt make it before

occurs/started when - problem start after i was driving and heard a wierd noise. it turned out to be a loose wheel nut. after taht incident i started to get weird noises from diff. at low speeds turning left clunks, high speeds abit. when changing gears clunks abit.

personal situation - i took the passenger axle where the noise was coming from. axle comes off easy, bearing is still in one piece. its got new oil and jsut changed to castrol oil to see if noise goes away but still there. besides that the axle does have abit of freeplay. is that normal?

NEED to get fixed before SATURDAY because its last driftland at oran park

thanks for reading

might be a worn crown wheel and pinion, mine is doing the same thing as you describe during shifts and low speeds.
IMO, it should still hold out for a drift day but get it changed sooner rather then later

did yours happen out of no where too? quite strange cause mine did.

mine started making the sound after doing some skids

*edit: which im assuming happened due to revving and dumping of the clutch which would have engaged the pinion really harshly into the crown wheel

im iffy about driving but, but when skidding i dont think about it

Free play in what direction?

well, theres movement sometime when shiftting 1-2. and when turning left forward or backwards

I wouldn't usually expect free play in the axle shaft, once bolted in it should spin easily but also smoothly and without play. However, it is common to experience play between your crown and pinion wheel, but I wouldn't expect you to hear that during normal driving.

the noise of my diff got louder and louder and yesterday i think i snapped the crown wheel or cracked it as both wheels locked while moving foreward; but the car would move freely if pushed backwards.
my car was stuck on the side of the road for a night and today i got a trailer and got her home.
was planning on a new cw + p anyway as it was shitty 3.3 ratio.
will be opening her up to check exactly what happened and will post pics of any farkd up sheitt

my drive train makes some nasty noises due to play in the diff when changing gears and letting off the throttle. Only seemed to arise after a few skids. My current centre is a kazz 1.5way...how hard are these to rebuild? Does anyone know where to get rebuild kits from?

your best to check on the kaaz website and send them an email for a genuine kaaz rebuild kit, otherwise take it to a diff joint and tell them to shim it up

edit: also, it sounds like youv got a worn crown wheel as the exact same thing happened to me (and it was my crown wheel worn badly).

-imo you should rebuild your centre when it starts "single-ing"

na man depends on the noise, if its slight clunking or chattering, buy some good LSD additive, should fix it up and feel shimmy again

so i've changed the axle around to see if the noise would change sides. i drove it to work and back today. when turning left, the noise doesnt seem to be as loud but is still coming from the left after i change the axle. prior to this incident the lsd didnt lock as hard. but tis starting to lock like a locker at times.

is the crown n pinion rooted? how much of its life does it got left? whats a good lsd additive?
