johl if you're in here, did you ever have any troubles with those struts i bought off you? just sold them to casey and apparently all the threads in the hubs and rotors are screwed because the bolts were loose? not blaming just checking
johl
19th November 2011, 01:26 PM
Never had a problem with them. Ran them for almost 2 years then thy just sat in my shell so I could move it around. What thread exactly?

19th November 2011, 01:34 PM
had the sads on cause i thought i had to put bumpstops in the rolla. took the wheels off and there they are, when the fuck did this happen!?
i'm suprised this ke70 hasn't rusted up yet! it's been out in the weather for almost 2.5 years and it's still virtually rust free :)
paints well and truly fucked now.... painted interior still looks mint after 1 year in the sun.
all looks good though, just a few new globes and a clean and it should go through :D

the bolts that hold the hubs to the rotor were apparently loose for a while and must have chewed the thread in the hubs. no worries though i probably should have checked them earlier instead of sitting them in the shed for half a year
ke_70

just retap the a size bigger. drill out the rotors if need be. (only if they're hub sentric which i think they are?)

Officially will be on 13's all round, mk2 rears and starsharks for steerers :)
Thinking about getting federals for the fronts as tyre choice is limited and I dont want semi's. Rears will.depend on power I guess

yeah that seems like the best idea, dunno though see what the new owner wants to do
johl
19th November 2011, 02:28 PM
Sorry to hear man but it is easy to re tap a thread so hopefully he gets it together soon. Didn't he check it before he installed them or did he notice it before be put them on? As I never actually drove on them since taking the hubs off, I would have only wheeled the shell onto and off a trailer so maybe moved 20metres in 2 years?

willa have a look at the pirelli p zero semi's, its what i use on the front of the vl, and they keep that boat in line, even when its raining.

so ive been doing the boxing for 3 weeks. my hands have hardened up enough so i can wail on the bag without gloves (its filled with 100kg's of sand, like hitting a brick wall). i bought some kickboxing blocking pads for my legs today. ut them on and gave the bag a go. every kick was like getting hit with a police baton as hard as the pig can swing at your shin. maybe in 3 weeks my legs will harden up. i had bruised knuckles for 2 weeks. looks like bruised shins and feet for atleast as long

when knuckles harden its all calluses build which is a good thing so nervs dont get too you with feel as much, either way cardio is cardio unless your deciding to use it as a weapon then its a whole different story

im trained in aiki jujitsu. mu thai is good. mma is just gay. brazilian jujitsu is just as gay. both are sports just like boxing.
ive done aiki jujitsu from a child. as a teenager i thought i should learn how to punch harder with more technique so i did boxing. i did boxing with the local boxing trainer at the gym. did it for 2 years. i also thought i should learn how to kick better with more technique and did taekwondo. i did taekwondo with the womens australasian champion at the time. did it for 6 years. i realised i should have just stuck with aiki jujitsu because i learnt nothing new from boxing or taekwondo. went back to aiki jujitsu for 2 years and then stopped fighting/training.
i only do boxing now for cardio because its a fast and easy way to lean up.
just put 1 of my wheels together. if i knew it would so much of a bitch to put them back together i would never have taken them apart. would have just gotten them polished in 1 piece and sprayed the centres after taping up the lips.
i worked out an easier way to put them back together. the other wheels should only take me 20mins each instead of the hour the first one did. should have taken a pic but i guess ill take pics when im done with all 4
ae86
19th November 2011, 07:20 PM
yeah its annoying putting 3pc wheels together, especially if you get ssr meshies that are old and fkn nuts break on you!!! my first set of wheels sucked i restored the crap out of them and the guy i sell them to turns them into dirt was so angry
easier way to get lean is by cheating your body with diets, like me cause i ceebs with cardio
Vance
19th November 2011, 07:29 PM
yeah i had 1 bolt snap on me. made me think i should buy new bolts. a shame they cost $3.50 for 4 and i need fucking 20 each wheel. $70 for bolts isnt happening. im just gonna be careful and take a bolt for the snapped one from work.
im thinking of selling the wheels. they look pimp but i dont want the upkeep of cleaning and polishing them to keep them that way
i wanna break down the fat buildup around my heart too so i have more stamina for obvious reasons.

i used to play bf3 until mw3 came out. mw3 is faster paced but youll get pissed off more. i find bf3 boring
ae86
19th November 2011, 07:44 PM
i ended up getting stainless bolts from bunnings, dont remember it costing me much, or maybe dad bought them for me it was a long time ago ay
haven't tried bf3 but my mate who hates mw3 says bf3 is good, not sure if i trust his taste, he loves cod and rapes it but just hasnt liked mw since the 2nd one
Vance
19th November 2011, 07:59 PM
mw3 every class has cheap ways to kill that can be exploited.
assault rifles = tubes
submachine guns = rapid fire
light machine guns = rapid fire
sniper rifles = quick scope
shotguns = range proficiency - worst of the lot
im usually top 3 on server if not top 1 and i dont do any of them because they piss me off so much it would be unethical and hypocritical for me to use them.
im really looking at buying 8 konig rewinds in 14x7 -9 just so i can smash them against gutters and not care. if i sold these wheels i have id be able to buy 8. also looking at when my rust is fixed spraying my car 2pak white with no tints so if i ever smash a pannel i can just respray a panel and not have to get the paint matched. the car is and always will be a thrasher, not a show car.
in other news i bought some ae92 lights today to pull apart and put the silver bits into some spare ae86 lights i have. i remember reading a tech article on doing this once and saw it gives much better light. stock levin lights give shit light.
ae86
19th November 2011, 08:46 PM

this arvo when i was working on my wheels my neighbours were having a semi-formal party with what looked like friends + relos. kinda looked like an engagement party. when what looked like the grandfather arrived the dad/owner of the house comes outside to meet him. first thing the grandfather asked him was, "who owns the sprinter?"

so i was meant to be going halves with my boss for these 2 jza80s, which in the beginning was cool, then one was supposedly bent so I figured we weren't going to buy them. Had holidays this past week, so i wasn't in the shop, then at 1130 last night, my boss calls me, wanting toknow if ill be ready to drive to tentiwilliga at 1:30am (16hr return trip) or some shit to tow them back down here, I hadn't spoken to the #### for a week, and yet i am supposed to know his plans for these cars.
Suck my fat dick.
Then when I tell the #### that he should go get one, and i'll pay for a carrier to ppick the other one up during the week, thats not good enough and he has a sook. Some people are just fucking stupid.

the bent bit isnt an issue, but driving a heap of shit, vl with a car trailer, locked diff, and a fucked engine (down to 120psi comp on 3 cylinders), for 16 hrs with 2 hrs notice for a bent supra isnt going to happen.

20th November 2011, 11:03 AM
just get them trucked? easy!
Gunner
20th November 2011, 11:13 AM
well thats what i want to do, its going to cost the same either way. Fuel, food, drinks for 2 cars, only have one trailer, so trailer hire for the second. so lets say 300 each car minimum, plus the trailer for a day so thats near on $700 i reckon i could get both cars down here for around 800
willa
20th November 2011, 11:56 AM

Ill have a look at those tyres now gunns

why do people take the valve out when they stretch tyres?
stop vaccum from heat of the flame cooling and retracting there for popping it offf the bead? taking it out means air preasure wont seat high enough and not seat properly?
ke_70
20th November 2011, 03:55 PM
i take the valve out, but i crack open the airvalve just before i light it up so as soon as it pops on the air pressure keeps the beads on.
mind you i didn't last time because i really don't need too. as im only going 185/55 on 9'', easy street!

with the strong possibility of going low mount turbo I thought I'm better off. and while I'm doing my rear main I thought id do/upgrade other stuff while I'm at it. also putting a new speedo drive in, lightweight flywheel, new clutch. when I go to do something I may aswell do other stuff while I'm at it. save me pulling stuff out again

parts are paid for, just waiting on getting them posted to me. still waiting on clutch and fly from a supplier, and all my suspension stuff from ajps. ive got til next year so ive defs got time. ill probably have the car painted in a month or 2 aswell as have it mechanically setup as i want.
im moving out again when my parents get back from overseas. theyve gone for 3 weeks and left today. organising a place to stay in the city but also trying to get a garage wangan midnight style to work on my car during the arvo/night so it cant be the average mass security car lot. has to be a concrete wall 1.5 car or long 1 car garage. moving will slow my car down a fair bit so im trying to get everything done mechanically while theyre away.
rust im paying someone to do and paint i will do over 2-3 saturdays back at home (ill just travel back).
just put another one of my wheels together and started by putting 4 bolts each into the other 2. its 8:20 so banging a hammer in my lounge room isnt going to impress the neighbours. they already hate me :P

How many K’s old? 2000 kms.
Is it a bigport/smallport/4agze etc? <- from late model ae86, head
is from a ae92 late model. Is that enough info.
Any port and polishing of the head or any head work at all? <- no mention of this.
Upgraded internals, valves, valve springs, pistons etc? <- no mention but doesnt sound like it.
The throttle bodies on it? <- AE101 OEM throttles with funnels.
Is the loom intact? <- comes with loom, but its modified but modded to suit ae86 so he reckons its an easy swap. (comes with ECU)
Is it in good working condition? <- reckons it will drive as is but if you are worried he recommends retuning the ECU.
And does the seller have a buy it now price he’d be willing to sell it for? <- no buy now offered, standard is to make an offer and the seller will either accept or reject it.
assuming 150k win price.

if anything it only needs higher compression pistons for the bottom which would set you back $1000. $4.2k for a race motor aint bad.
you don't pay $3k+ for a 4AGE from Japan to do a full rebuild though? Assumed stock head too.
Andy's old proven 105rwkw motor (on sedate tune) was sold for ~$2.5k... with trans, clutch etc exhaust
so sick of this guy in SA who hasnt sent my bride seat yet, wont refund me either i want to get his address and take annual leave just to pay him a visit
I've been meaning to look into this :)

yeah thats true. not necessarily a full rebuild but not everyone here is a mechanic or has the know how to pull an engine apart to just put new pistons and rings in.
but looking at the engine the bare minimum that has gone into the head and intake is $1500 in parts. add a decent running low km's smallport to put those parts in is $1000, and then add a computer $800, and then tune the computer $800. it works out about the same as building the engine yourself. i also wouldnt bother getting one from japan just to do that though. locally it can be done

I wouldn't pull the motor down to only do pistons and rings

3k's still alot to pay for a motor, let alone somone who you havn't/can't even discuss it with.
you'll get away with importing just standed motors, but not built ones.
build one your self to exactally what you want.

depends if its 3 rib or 7 rib bigport.
it would only take about 2 hours to pull down the motor, put new pistons and rings in and slap it back together. time and money is the factor here. i would have to agree and say personally i would be doing new bearings, seals, gaskets, rod bolts, head studs, if i was going to be putting $1000 pistons in it just because majority of the motor is unknown in what parts, quality and age.
that said im pedantic and a perfectionist, and the tradies at work, the trainers at work, and my tafe teachers all say, "you love spending money dont you? always replacing parts that dont need replacing."
i always come back and say, "yes but itll save me having to do it again."
then they say, "so youd rather spend hundereds of dollars if not more to save yourself 2 hours or at worst a whole afternoon?"
and i say, "you have a point."

if you dont want to spend money on a big port, find a small port head, soend some money on it, and slap it on

how rare are 7 rib blocks?
i also read the the FA use the gze block cause they have i high magnisium count or somthing. anyone heard of this?

7 rib blocks are probably more common than 3 rib. only 4ac and 86kw bigport 4age use 3 rib. everything else is 7 rib. 100kw smallport 4age (late smallport) has the rarest block cause it has an extra oil drain from the head to the block, still a 7 rib.
never heard anything about gze blocks having a high magnesium count but it wouldnt be all gze's. theres aw11 (7 rib bogport), then ae92 (early smallport) , then ae101 (late smallport) in order from oldest to newest respectively.
