this might help also,

im pretty sure thats the problem,

if not try earthing your fuel pump better, but im not sure if thats the problem, to check your injectors just hook 12 volts up to them see if they click. you can do it down at the computer, i think the second from the left on the very left plug.

v-tec
15th February 2007, 12:06 PM
ok cheers mate, i have a good thought its the fuel pump earth as from what its doing it just seems fitting. but those sounds plauseable otherwise... not sure about the batter as its not loosing any power, still cranks the car fine etc
tho.. if it is some reason the charge light is coming on it could be whatever transfers the power from the motor to the electrics is not working... alternator im guessing

v-tec
15th February 2007, 06:39 PM
Car runs again as of this arvo. I had a connection on the positive wire to the fuel pump that had bad connection, kept shorting out and basically started soldering itself...

Needless to say, that connection, and the connections to the positive terminal on the pump, the negative, and the earth were all spliced, crimped, covered in heat shrink and then electrical taped.
Also the earth point got sanded all the way back to ensure no crap ups.

So hopefully now that is the last of my 4age woe's.
All thats really left to do is my water pump setup, im in the process of collecting parts to have a proper jdm setup.
So far i have the water pump and the thermistat housings (thanks to monk) and ill have to look into finding a proper alternator bracket and tensioner.

*E7* sticker..........

me want

on a side note YOU HAVE SKILLZ i was for some reason shocked when i first saw you at a track day, not being rude but i just didn't think the car was capable of what you do!!! the parts list wasn't overly impressive i don't know how you do it with just cutties and normal steering arms etc. you seriously out perform 86/70 drivers with built cars.

i guess the most important part on a drift car is nut behind the wheel http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

with the better set up you have now i see good things..

props to you http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

please note i'm not trying to be offensive, i know of 2 other people that have driven Grants car and don't know how the hell he does it!!!!!! both of which drive nice 86's

v-tec
22nd February 2007, 02:55 PM
haha thanks gilly, nah thats not offsive in any way
yea the cars setup is pretty basic so i spose i just do with what i got...

good work grant, now u just need to stiffen up the front. get some coilovers and power steering arms and your car will be heaps better.

lol jase you havent talked to me in a while ay, im running ps arms since janurary, and now have some slightly stiffer springs in the front with better height

v-tec
26th February 2007, 07:56 PM
Man had some fun the past two days, i think i was talking about my mates ke70 a few posts back... anyway that motor blew a water pump, but also blew a head gasket and somehow fuel was getting into oil and leaking... basically a rooted motor.
Heres a pic of the car

Yes we painted it ourselfs. Bodjo spec...

Heres how the motor looked after all the damage was done

So we took it upon ourselfs to complete strip the motor just for farts and giggles

This is how every 4Kc should look
All this basically went to the tip, usless junk

I also decided to keep myself a souvenir

Now an empty bay for the next owner to play with

The car is just getting another 4k and a 5speed box put in it, but it would be worth some dosh for some one planning on a 4age conversion to save them the mucking about of removing the motor to start with.
Comes with roadworthy and registration, so if anyone can beat $300 enough to sway my mate into sale shoot me a Pm

myaw11
26th February 2007, 08:26 PM

haha sick. havnt been in this beast since the ae cruise before the last one. such a cool car!...uve probs already told me this but how much extra lock did the power steering arms give u? worth it?

p.s ur spacers look HOT!

v-tec
27th February 2007, 04:49 PM
yea seems worth it, have yet to properly test it out, assuming the setup doesnt suck arse on thursday ill say it was worth it.

looking forward too it, me and charlie will be doing some dorieez

v-tec
1st March 2007, 09:23 PM
Ok yea today i found out the setup was definately worth it, ps arms and 86 struts make the car so much more controlable.
To add to that i had the trailing arms makeing the car nice and slipery in the rear end.

I was doing clutch kicks into second corner at 120kph, top of third gear and was sideways all the way through to the end of the corner.

rofl and to top the day off i got asked if i was mumblezzz!!!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/crazy.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/greenbounce.gif

Had a good time both days, got through the days without much drama. Love having dori sessions with charlie, however i think he likes the ripple stripe more than me

Was really happy to have made it into the Top 32, so got into the Group B 16, Was hopeing to do a little better, but i underestimated what cars would be there that day.
I think it did pretty good considering i was the only N/A or non sponsored person (i think) to make it into the top 32

yeah, 4k piston gets me luv long time

bustin the trailing arms are just a stock panhard rod, cut down, with a rosejoint on one end and a bit of adjustability, does the job for now but i wanna get a full proper set.

More importantly check out my new drift shoes, seeing as my old left shoe lost its complete sole (seems my clutch did last longer)

Lammi, i have no idea what my rev limit is... it says something past 8500 which is where my revs end on the tacho, but im 100% sure thats way off as stock bigports have a factory limit of 7500

Being a 4age enthusiast.......i dont think a stock bigport is going to last too long if its gunna be over 8k rpm every time you drift. i suppose you wouldnt take it much further than 8 anyway.
edit just read the post again, tacho might be inaccurate, but it surely couldnt be that far out. mine limits at 7750 and the ecu cuts it.

still sounds porn tho haha

Forgot to add, wanna thank andrew, tom, brenton and supra mark for their help putting the panels and that on
And monk (for verbal support)

Also big thanks to Beally (driftke70) for giving me a great price on the panels and hopefully i wont smash then up on him lol

The hardest part about changing that over is the light mounts dont line up.. at all. i litterally had to tear bits of the radiator support panel out and redrill holes so i could fit a alloy plate to mount the new lights... took about 5 hours

Lammi
19th March 2007, 11:01 PM
Hey do you reckon you'd have to do the same thing to a slanty front ke70 to convert to the square headlight front? i just bought a ke70 and the first thing im doing is cleaning up the body and this would be my main focus to start with. thanks dude

driftke70
19th March 2007, 11:19 PM

Hehe, had to do some major flarage of the light guards... One file went down but the important thing is that we survived.

Was pretty tough work in the heat of Grant's garage. That standing around with my hands in my pocket or pestering Sammy was well tiring. Then I had to go to stupid work so didn't get to see the completely finished project.

Looks fuckin' hot Grant. So hot it's inspired me to flare my guards a little at some point today and maybe snip a coil off.

365077 KYB excel G short stroke for ST185 Celica GT4

sorry i couldn't remember where i wrote it downstairs http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

needs a spacer to fit struts. mine were shortened to suit the insert. Grant will probably know the spacer size.

DR1FT
28th March 2007, 12:56 AM
thanx champ

yeah though it would require a spacer.. but strut shortening does sound good aswell.
wouldnt know how though.. will use SEARCH button tomorrow when im a bit more sober. lol

v-tec
28th March 2007, 02:17 PM
If you shorten the strut you have to re thread it, i wouldnt know how you would go about that... i think the spacer you need has to be about 1.5 inch... but not too sure about that.

The spacer in my struts is just the bottom of a stock Ae86 shock... weird
Also keep in mind that ae896 struts are also shorter than Ra60 ones so they need shorter spacers in ae86 struts

Bustin_86
28th March 2007, 02:24 PM
i think it is like a 75mm spacer... sorry to clog up your thread v-tec

Gilly
28th March 2007, 04:08 PM
my coilovers have the threaded section cut off so its still usable. the required tube section to shorten it is then removed. the threaded section is welded back on then the sleeve welded over the top of that.

thats what it appears was done. i read an article in zoom and thats how they made their 86 coilies.

it all holds together fine.

DR1FT

Well its been a little bit since i posted, but i figured i would wait to post some pics till i had most of the stuff i had planned to have.

As some of you know i recently got a full time job as a construction drafter so im now earning a bit more cash for my current pride and joy.

The pictures are pretty self explanitory but ill put some words up anyway.

Firstly, theres the part thats probly the most performance orientated in the car.
Brand spanking new cusco camber tops

Secondly i saw some wheels which i just had to have, just as skid rims but hot none the less.
Work equipe 01's http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wub.gif 14x6.5 0 offset

Also beneth them is my exhaust that ill soon be using for archerfield, i have to get it cut and welded to suit my car and a bit smaller pipe so its not soo loud. Massive thanks to Mark, our newest member to the Midnight Mechanics for just giving me that. Such a champ

Also my new rims came with a certain hot type of rubber

Bridgstone Potenza Re01's (drool)

And last but not least, i finally forked out for fibreglass bolt on rear guards for the corolla.
In this picture theyre all blue, but they will be all painted and cleaned up for next track yet.

I have also got a set of 25mm bolt on spacers for the rear of the car so it will be just bloody wide arsed

Thats it for parts, but ill leave you with a picture i got of me from last track day in which i came fourth http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif
Massive congrats to Ant, Mark and Sam who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively which made an all Corolla podium. Hows that for representation http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

v-tec
6th May 2007, 12:42 PM
yet to find out, seems like ive melted the pressure plate... god knows how...

The car just free reved and then had no gears. The clutch pedel also went massively stiff. We knocked off hydrolics cause it was all working, gearbox cause they worked, as same for syncrose

We still managed to drive the thing home after the night, the clutch just grabed once the pedel was all the way out, not like close to the top, but all the way out... weird
It got weirder too, on the way home i did a bit of a slide, 2nd gear clutch kick, and the fucker felt fine after...

Gona drop the box today and im assuming im gona find a clutch welded to its own arse.

on a lighter note id like to annownce my proffessional commenating carreer lol

Ok 86 drivers, this is why a ke70 borg warner rear end is sooo much better than your standard S-Series

This locker has been in my car for coming on a year now.
On about average a full track day every second weekend was attended with this diff, and every time it got belted the shit out of. Not to mention that this is my full daily car.
It has also had like two months of rain warrioring from my 4ac days.
The diff also had only the lowest quality diff oil i could find.

In this, none of the teeth are chipped, on the insides, on the pinion, or on the crown wheel. For those who say that the axles would be shagged... nope. You would swere these suckers came straight from a grandma spec ke70 http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

This came out on sunday in favor of another locker and new axles just due to how long these things last, i would have thought it was fairly roorted but no dice. Also put in new bearings, seals, drum pads, wheel cylinders and filled the sucker with Penrite LSD oil.

Anyway, my car has come down with a case of a blown head gasket. Got a TRD 0.5mm one coming over soon, thatll be going back on with the stock head unfortunately, however i have decided to start saving for the ecu and injectors i need to run the head with 304 inlet and exhausts.

its the same problem i was trying to figure out here(ie still havent fixed it):

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forum/in...c=15414&hl= (http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forum/index.php?showtopic=15414&hl=)

We thought we narrowed it down to definately being a gasket, but yeah it looks okish

This is what my engine bay looks like right now lol... discusting

The other thoughts is its something bottom end, cause it was pulling 130-140psi in each cylinder so its missing compression bad... so has to be something
but yea if its bottom end i just dont wanna deal with it, ill probly just get another motor

Kerryx
16th June 2007, 08:02 PM
you say its got 130-140 compression over all cylinders? wouldve thought that would have been about normal?

v-tec
16th June 2007, 08:06 PM
nah, i think its ment to be like 180ish..
maybe a bit lower for a old arse engine, had someone say 140 or so is close to normal but i dont think that is right
The motor definately feels low on compression too... its like a 4ac

Kerryx
16th June 2007, 08:25 PM
Depends on your compression ratio really, if you havent changed the head gasket recently, put in a thinner head gasket i severly doubt that it would be 180 on a standard 16v, Maybe a 20v ? Dont quote me though.. i replied to your post in the tech articles http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

slidn70
17th June 2007, 09:44 PM
180psi would be about normal.

thats what my 3sgte 8.8:1 cr was reading.. but readings will depend on how you do the test. There are a few different methods:some pull all the plugs out and test the cylinders. also opening the t/b and having it closed will affect the comp readings too.

It's most important that they are within about 5-10psi of each other. if one or two or the cylinders are reading really low, then there is definately a problem.

Good luck with it dude. hope you get it running again soon http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Ill put an Ae86 owner thread up on the weekend and give all the details, gona get it rego'd and just drive it daily and itll probly eventualyl become my dream 86 (dream on lol)

Im sorta giving up on the corola for a bit, we got to putting the cams back in and snapped a cam bolt so im getting very tired if its ability or lack of ability to consistantly run. Its just sitting in the garage again till i get it fixed... it may end up i have to take the whole head off again and pull out all the vavles and stuff and drill this bolt out :(

Will see how we go..

anyway hopefully this ae86 will be good for a while

Yea nah the ke isnt getting given up on, just getting bit pissed off at the amount of time it spends not running.
Hopefully i dont have to take the head off again, and this gasket lasts and can get it all bolted up again and get it sorted and back out bleeding ears again.

I really miss driving this car, im trying to get my self amped to either spend the money or time to get this fixed. i should have the ae86 on road soon so ill get stuck into it after that.

Lol i got my work equipes all polish in hope of wanting to get back out on track haha.

Also on the weekend i got really really bored so i bogged up my guards and sprayed over them, pretty happy with the result. bogged a few times to prevent as many bubbles in it. Still came out alright depite me accidently re priming the guard after paint it red and charlie putting three finger marks down my left guard (this was solved with a 5 second blast of primer and it was sweeeeet! Alriiiitte!)

Dammit i miss belting the crap out of this car... maybe thats why it's broken... hmm... nah it just hates me.

Would Anyone here on the coast have the details for someone that could tap out a bolt in the head? I need someone that can come to me. Someone affordable would be good, but I would prefer to get someone that really knows what they are doing as it's all the same with engine work, one discrepency and it's fuked.

good to see you havnt let it die now that you have the 86. I know of people but they wouldnt travel that far. Hope you find someone.

it's about time we did some brutal keto battles. keto now has trd 2 way and 4 links = mass predictable angle. just need to get some power steering arms so my car can keep up with my appetite.

"Easy Out" :)

v-tec
17th July 2007, 08:29 PM
Easy out has been suggested, however I have had much prior warning as to how critical it is to not get an form or shard of metal into the head (as I am trying to do this without having to A. take the head off again or be. dismantle the whole to to be removed of metal shavings due to drilling).

If it comes to it tho ill see if the proffesional person can do it without the dismantle.

seek
17th July 2007, 08:37 PM
I reccomend against easy out.... I've used them twice now and they only make the problem worse. try and exhaust all other options before you use it. if you f**k it, you have to get someone to do it for you, and it will cost more.

Kerryx
17th July 2007, 09:02 PM
depends how good you are with an easy out, Yes it has to be perfectly centre, Easy fix if you know what you are doing

v-tec
18th July 2007, 09:46 AM
Whatever I get done ill get it done proessionally, I've sorted been forced into a corner. If I do the slightest thing wrong it could require, pulling the head off, apart or even putting another motor in so I don't wanna risk that.

Easy out have been reccomended heaps to me so if I can get a proffessional that can do it without the worrys ill definately consider it.

As said tho, has anyone got anyone they can reccomend for the job that does mobile work?

biggo
18th July 2007, 11:48 AM
grant I highly doubt you will find a mobile "snapped botl remover" as is more of an engineers job. See if you can get hold of a bloke after hours. Also that bolt is that 10mm head? rathr hard to get an easy out centered on it.

Good luck tho man, you've got the right idea on a profesional tho :2thumbs:

why exactly did you break a hea bolt, did you get new bolts? if so didnt you follow the right torsion listed?

v-tec
20th July 2007, 12:53 PM
Mr abuse aka drft86 aka jase broke the bolt lol

nah it was a dodgy torque wrench I think, the foot per pound was ment to be 19 I think (can't quite remember) and I just don't thing the wrench worked for anything under like 25... ghey.

It was one of the bolts that hold the cam shafts in, pretty much sheerd it right off.

21st July 2007, 12:02 PM
The poor ae71 is like me... poor lol

Well the sprinter is on road this week, and I just got the starter motor sorted this morning (hopefully). Hopeing my trusty auto electrican has got it right.

Will look up these tread tec guys sometime soon, maybe next weekend or something and hopefully get this bolt out and the cams back in.

hopefully can get the toffe apple bumble bee zebra back out and bleeding ears again.
Planing on getting some proper teflon rose jointed 4 links in, and maybe a good panhard rod... etc
I still gotta sort out my rear brakes as I threaded one of the lines when I did the whole diff transplant, but it'll be good to come back on track with a brand spanker of a locker and a working handbreak for once.

Kerryx
21st July 2007, 12:28 PM
lol you threaded the pipe union that goes into the wheel cylinder? eeeekkk, thats going to be a bitch haha, I don't know of many ways of fixign that besides cutting the flare off, putting a new thread on and reflaring the pipe. spose it all depends how bad it's threaded

I'm just planning on getting another set of brass lines, apparently I can pick up a set from slacks creek brake and clutch... otherwise ill just get a second hand set.

Not bothering with trying to repair the one on the car right now it's shafted

v-tec
25th July 2007, 06:54 PM
Got around to calling thread tech today, apparently it would be an expensive excercise to get them to come down as they are all the way up in capalaba. :(

However, they are exactly what I need cause apparently this job is a peice of piss to them.

DOES ANYONE KNOW OF SOMEONE THAT DOES THE SAME JOB AS THREAD TECH (mobile bolt removal) ON THE GOLD COAST?

Aparently it would be done with a drill and easy out, but he says that he would use a magnet to prevent metal shards going into the head... I'm really amped to get this done now, don't care how much it costs. now that I have the 86 sorted I just wanna get this thing back out and ripping skids

hilton
25th July 2007, 08:51 PM
I'm in capalaba, just thought id share, but yeah man, just get easy outs and do it, or get a mate whos used em b4 to do it, they will charge heaps to do it otherwise,

v-tec
26th July 2007, 06:22 PM
Called Steve Rickets mobile thread repairs today so I'm going to get him to get the bolt out on monday. He said should be about $80 - $120 which I think is a fairly comfortable price. Wanted to get the job done by a proffesional as I have really bad drill bits, don't have much experience with easy outs... and just generally would prefer something this delicate to be done proffesionally.

Hopefully that should be the end of that, I'm gona have to finish geting the cams back in (touch wood I don't break another bolt lol) but this time I'm gona have a really good torque wrench etc. So yeah will hopefully have it back running within the next two weeks depending on when I can get time to fix it all.

As much as I miss it, I probably wont go back to track straight away. I'm most likely gona fork out some cash for one of gillys chin lips, some 4 link and I gotta finally go get my rear 25mm bolt on spacers off streeter which I paid for like 4 months ago...
So yeah... see how we go

So ive pretty much got the car 90% finalised now. Got stuck into it this weekend and started putting everything back together.
Basically bolted extractors back up, finished off rerouting the cooling system (from gay to sik spec), and bolted up the rwd manifold.
I got a new rwd manifold to replace my other one (many thanks pat!! :2thumbs: ) as it had broken on two parts of where it bolts to the tvis. I think that was mainly cause i didnt have one of those braces that hold it to the engine mount. anyway this new manifold had all that so its bolted up sweet... scarely enough i didnt plan to have the brace in there when i did the cooling pipes yet it still fit in ok.

Anyway all i need to get done now is bolt up the camshafts (and gears and timing setup), however ill be waiting a few weeks for that as im getting new bolts from toyota... which they say is gona be three weeks minimum. Not to happy, but none the less hopefully itll mean i wont be getting any more broken bolts and we shouldnt have any dramas putting the rest of the motor back together.

Heres some pics of how its looking now
Basically just waiting for these camshaft bolts, everything else is sorted.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/1/8/176.jpg

While i had all the manifold off too i took the time to redo the cooling system as the previous one was really bad. Basically i had it being held up by a bolt on the manifold, as if it wasnt held up it was pretty much sitting flat on my steering shaft...

Also doraemon is very excited about the progess of the car... he loves the drift

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/152241.jpg

Also if anyone has any idea where to get brand new brass brake fluid lines, id love to know. Particularly the lines that come from the rear end and up to the wheel cylinders, as mine are stuffed. Ive been tipped slacks creek brake and clutch, but i have to find time to get up there.

Cheers
