i had an idea of turboing the 4ac (when i get it in) but that was going to be far too costly

i have had another idea. stuff turbo, its too expensive, what about supercharger (it maybe cheaper). i could just grab one off of a 4agze, make up some custom mounting brackets, lower the compression, run some piping, under drive it to prevent 4ac killage as soon as i turn the key. supersharger scream!!

costs
s/charger $150-200
intercooler $50
piping $50
massive thick h/g $30??
pulley thing $20
= $250-300

turbo was going to cost aprox $800!!
offcourse there is the bigport 4age option again $850 minimum

i think this will be a much more viable option than the last. i know that a 4age would be best and i would rather i 4age(i think) the any old crappy 4ac. the thing is i would be willing to push the 4ac harder i would a 4age. i would tend to baby a 4age but a 4ac it would be all on...

oh and some more questions

1) would a gze s/c be the best option? they seem cheap
2) how do you control the boost? im asuming with the pully sizes
3) do the boost vary like a turbo or dose it stay the same although the rpm?
4) do s/c have a thing in em to reduce to boost when you get off the throttel? (compressor bypass i think) how would i get on if it is surpost to run 12psi and you want to run 8psi? would you be able to ajust? it dont surpose it works like a turbo wastegate?

any comments/sergestion/answres to my questions would be aprecated

thanks

dooooooo it... for a bit more strength... maybe consider a bigport bottom end? extreamly cheap to come buy... rings and bearings you can get for anout $150-$180 and put the 4AC pistons on the 4AG rods.. i haven't tried this.. or pulled one down to have a look if it would work.. so try it.. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

i was thinking turbo but then when i did the sums i thought that super charging might be cheaper.

im just collecting some ideas at the moment, ether way i dont want to spend too much on a 4ac!

how do you control the boost on a supercharger???? and how much boost can a 4ac handle resonably reliabley??? i.e. without instantly shittin its self

you wont save a cent super charging

my turbo cost me $50, your super charger will be 200-300

A suckthrough carby turbo set up would probably be easier to fabricate and as Lawson said it will probably be cheaper, mainly because there are more turbos laying around eth wreckers than superchargers. I know a lot of guys that use suck throughs on their rally cars and a lot of them use 2nd hand turbos off old diesels. So if we add it up:

2nd hand turbo = $100 - $150
Piping and flanges to mount turbo = $200ish?
Sidedraught carb (the guys I spoke to swear by them) = buy a rusty alfa gtv and get 2 of them @ $100 - $200

So really you could probably do it for under $500 with a bit of scrounging. I got a pair of side draughts off an Alfa for $50 and they are pretty good, it really depends how hard you look and what skills you and your mates have. It's never going to be pretty and your going to have to live with the fact that you will have to muck around with it a fair bit to get a decent result, but it can be done!

There is a thread somewhere on either rollaclub or toymods about an ae71 with a supercharged 4ac as well.

you need a new exhaust too

ae71
25th June 2006, 08:12 PM
yep it would be on the cheap side definatly.. jason, mentiond using copper piping, this would definatly look pov but this could work, maybe.. i thought i could get hold of a pipe bender, but that has fell though so i might try and get hold of a bender when time comes to put it in. i would want to make the mani and the exhaust, that would take a lot of cost out out of it.

do you need to do somthing to the turbo to draw threw? i was thinking blow threw because you cant use a cooler with draw through..

i was thinking of getting a TD04, but that would be a bit over kill.. with the boost i would be running. any surgetions on a turbo? or just what ever i can find?
can i use a diesel turbo? there is some diffrence but i cant remember.

mattysshop

draw through will naturally have an intercooling effect... and with the boost your running... you don't need a cooler.. or a BOV..

RobertoX

td04 will be a size or so too large but will work fine, do it!

ae71
26th June 2006, 06:37 PM
so i can i use a diesel turbo and copper piping?

and mattysshop you HAVE to have a bov!!! bout the only peice of bling my car will have http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

how much boost can i safely run?
