hey all,

just curious as to how any of you have modified your factory seat rails to fit buckets. my old man and i already have a plan on what to do. just interested if any of you have done this and how you did yours?
please add pics if possible. prefer pics of one that is currently complied.

cheers Matt

welded 2 bars across the rails and bolted the seat to that.

on another one, i cut the buggery out of the rear mounts of an st162 seat and welded the 2 front bolt hole things onto the front to offset the seat a bit as it was too wide.

doing mine tomorrow

have an aftermarket rail modded to suit ae86 bolt holes.

welding 2 bars across the top of the rails, bars fold up at the side as it's aside mount seat.

should work out low enough. my bottom mount seat sat too high. so we have lowered the rear mounts and i have switched to a side mount fixed back.

post pics up tomorrow if i remember.

i was referring to my effort http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

note no matter how much adjustability a sleeka seat has, it wont lift me over the dash.....something for tomorow tho, ill probably just space it up.

yea sick. any of u got harnesses? i need to know where i can mount the harnesses in the rear. are there any existing mounting points in the back i can use? or do i have to put a bar across the back? ive already got the harnesses but i cant see where i can put em in the rear.

If you're planning on doing a side mount seat, if you mount the side mount rails on top of steel between each of the rails (as proposed above) you won't get a very low seat position!!! the seat must sit between the rails to have a chance of being low enough.

There is nowhere you can put harnesses form the factory at the back. make up a bit of pipe that goes between the top seat mounts and mount the harnesses to that.

or buy an A-Spec brace

ask steve for one.

behind the back seat in the floor there is a child restraint attachment points, one on each side of the car.

I plan to use these.

I wouldnt rely on one of those rear seat mount braces, its only thin sheet metal with a couple of spot welds for mounting points.
Especially with 2 harnesess fitted!

I dont think those braces make any difference appart from added weight.

yea i was planing to use these as well but the eye bolts that i got with the harneses have a larger thread diameter than the child restraint ones. unless i make a plate or see if i can buy a high tensol eye bolt to fit into the hole. will most likely make a bar across the back. a nice sturdy one.

Don't mount the top two harness straps that low. They should be as horizontal as possible, otherwise in an accident they can pull your shoulders down and really mess you up. The CAMS manual has good guidance on how they should be fitted.

And the seat latching points look reasonably sturdy to me, everything in a car body is just thin welded sheet steel.

Strongly disagree on this one, I've had these braces in my last 2 sprinters and they make a pretty good difference. Especially when you have stiff suspension and bushes in the rear.
They made a shite load more difference than the rear strut brace that I had...

what he said, you kidding your self if you think they dont do anything

i have personally noted (and heard http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif ) the difference

im too tall lol i had to make custom fixed position seat mounts just so my head could clear the damn roof lol but for the harnesses mine were EASY http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif autotech 4pt: the lap belts use the same 14mm bolts so that was a breeze and where the back seats used to be theres a boxy lookin piece of car frame that used to support the front of the back seats. there was a hole in mine that was perfectly aligned with my steering column so i just bolted the 2 shoulder straps through that hole (esentially making it a 3pt) it works great and when i want i can still throw tha back seats in n the harnesses dont get in the way... well not as much as they would if you had them bolted to a reat strut brace...

So I guess your shoulder straps between your shoulders and the mounting point are almost vertical. That is bad. If you ever take a hard hit with a harness like this you can do some serious damage to yourself and the harness wont work as effectively.

The shoulder straps should be horizontal. Attaching them to a rear strut bar is about the best you can do in a hatchback.

They have to be 45 degrees to 0 degrees form the top of the seat to be Cams legal i know that much there is a pic of it somewhere that explains it best on this forum lol.

ha knew that comment would ruffle feathers, buy the eyes to suit the points in the floor, run the harness up over ur rear brace to get it higher.

I too have used these braces, still think they are flimsie each to their own 0.9 sheet can only be so strong.

that is all

Hey has anyone purchased any of the recaro styled buckets from:
justjap (http://www.justjap.com/parts_nseats.htm)

The recaro styled reclinable seats come with "universal rails" was just wondering how universal they are.. and what experience any of you have had with them.

400-600 a pair is pretty damn good. want to know any reviews of them too

cheers
