not quite thats more a hight tuned street/track/drift car. but it's a fckin sweet car.
reason there's not more cars like these in aus is the wheels are expensive, and there is no way you could pass rego with a car that low.
xsoarerx
16th January 2007, 04:15 PM
i dont think you would want to, driving that car that low would destroy the kit completly on austrailan roads!!! haha
that seven serise site is alsome! and R31 house as well... but i was watching some clips on R31 house and it was a drift comp day and they had one of there cars entered in the comp.
theres a couple of clips of the guy going around by him self and then competing against an AE86... the R31 went really crap and the camerman "conveniently" droped the camera, 2nd run he filmed jsut the R31 since it was last and cut the AE86 out. pretty poor.
anyway i finally found this guy on yahoo auctions again that sells yankey style parts
and the best part is the FULL MZ10 body kit - HOTNESS!
http://openuser.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/user/dontpelorian21
^^^ in a couple of months (maybe 4 or 5 or so) im going to arrange getting a large number of parts off this guy imported to aus.
would anyone be interested?
maybe closer to the date i will post an E.O.I

You're all wrong.
The ring doesnt actually mean anything, its a just a fasionable trend that is very popular with the younger drivers in Japan. They come from the hand rails in the japanese trains..
The ultimate point is to have your car low enough so that the ring scrapes the ground.

Guys,
Been told that there isnt anywhere you can get them online, but there is still hope.
I may be able to get some via someone in japan, but obviously this is going to put the price up.
At this stage of the game, *IF* i can get them, they will probably end up costing around $60 each with shipping and the giving the buyer in japan something.
I will keep trying to find somewhere I can buy them, If i can get them sent over without a middleman, they will be much cheaper http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

My thoughts exactly. I'm not out to make a profit, they cost about 2500yen which is about 25-30 bucks.
While i'm here, suppose i may as well post a pic of my finished car. Been building it up for the last year or so. These pics are a little outdated, car now has fender mirrors, lowered more and a stripped interior with a pair of fixed buckets. despite what most people think/expect, it still has 1600 motor. i've had it built to race-specifications with all the fruit, up to 1700cc. was running it carby-turbo after i got it built and hauled absoloute ass. had major problems with reliability though so went backwards to n/a. still goes great, obviously not the same as forced. making up quad throttle bodies for it, that i will fit and tune once my other car is finished...

25 to 30 is pretty sweet
do they steel them or do they buy them from shops, cuz bosozoku originally comes from car and motor bike gangs so i wouldn't put it past them that most of those rings are stolen. Although there most likely that popular and they sell them in Yankee style car stores.
photo bucket is the best!!!! get flock as well... its based on mozilla fire fox and it been re programmed so you can "drop and drag" images and up load them to your photo bucket with ease instead of having to search through your folders every time you want to upload a pic.
what sort of boso count are we talking about here... my unordered folder (as in all together, i take pics out for soarers and chasers etc...) is over 1000.

Thinking of s13 coilover fronts with CA brakes, may be SR turbo but I haven't looked into it yet. For the rear im not totally sure since it's a IRS end but it will have adjustable shocks (AE86, MA61 Rav 4 maybe) with some sort of adjustable spring set up – like coilover adjustable collar but with a normal size spring. And some sort of dished rim, but around 15x8" on front and 15x9" on the rear with close to 0 off set.

vl bonnet, i cant see why it would be illegal. but its one of those personal things where it would really depend on the engineer... You arnt interfeering with crumple zones, thats the main issue cleared, but i think you would have a tough time with visibility of headlights and indicators..
rear coilovers, i'm making my rear coilovers. modified from tein s13 fronts. sounds a bit dodge but its surplus parts i've had to work with. conventional s13 mounts have been removed with a mounting eye welded to the bottom. coilover sleeves cut off and rewelded much lower. shock bolts to tower as normal, spring rests on the chassis. full height adjustment, does away with the normal spring.
some people seem to think theres a strength issue with the lower shock mount. some people are idiots.

We approached a few engineers.. there where at least 3 separate ADR's the long nose didn't meet.
-The main concern was pedestrian safety.
-Obvious headlight issue.
-Something about bonnet protruding past the bumper.
In the end it was going to be easier to locate factory bonnet and guards and swap over for compliance and rwc. Not a huge hassle considering the hotness involved.
Maybe looking a Boso van as a possible tax write-off.. If anyone has any more good pics or links to any for sale please post up!

Are you making up those bells shaped coilover adapters for your set up? Since im thinking of running S13 running gear in the front maybe ill be able to some how run the rears like that picture, although I don't have a issues about strength with the lower shock mount - I think the upper shock mount is where the problem lies, but one of those bell shaped adapters would distribute the load alot better. I guess it would be a lot like how you run rear coilovers in an AE86 with a little bit of strengthening of the upper mounts.
And I can understand the problems you would face getting that GX71 over here, but I guess if you got a standard one, or one with air dam, spoilers, and wheels etc… and then when it was in Australia and regeo'd you could perform your own long nose conversion. And agreed Cressida's just aren't the same. The closest Cressida in Australian to the Japanese one is the MX30, its pretty much the same car. If you're a member of toymods a while back I posted this thread since I was considering a Cressida http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=14255 I got a heap of yankee pics there.

I'll have to test it out, but i will try and get away without making those bell shaped things, and just having the spring against the body, with some rubber insulators. I havent sussed out the strength in this area, but i think it should suffice.
otherwise i'll just have to continue with cut junkyard springs, its the shocks that will really make it worthwhile. these are no problem to fit.
a good example of using the chassis.

Actually, thinking about it, that bell over the top is purely to hold the spring captive. Look how it mounts, between the top mount, and has a locator on the inside to keep the spring and helper spring in place.
It is not going to distribute the load any different from having the spring against the body as I said. I dont know if you've seen rear shock situtation on a GX/MX7x, but the shock passes through an opening in the body thats only just bigger than the shock itself. I dont know what its like on MZ11 or any other toyotas for that matter.
when I get my car back (missus daily) i'll get these shocks mounted up and see how they look, take pics etc.

i get what your sayling about that bell shaped thing used as a locator. but im not totally convinced running the car on jsut rear coilovers - well for my soarer at leased, ive read threads on www.celicasupra.com about rear coilovers and the general thinking is that the ma61 (MA61 and MZ10 etc being 95% identical suspension wise) upper mounts arnt strong enough to support them.
but with a few mods it can work out.
im going to run with this idea.
http://www.jdm-option.com/eng/parts/06_08/img/types_top.jpg
http://www.jdm-option.com/eng/parts/06_08/img/types_02.jpg
these are the new GReddy High Performance Damper Type-S suspension system for AE86, the fronts are a step back for a Ma61 and wouldnt work but from what ive read and been told is that AE86 rear springs and shocks fit very well and work great (but only standard lenght). so im thinking of fininding those larger adjustable collars or getting them made up. but those gready set up is pretty tempting, not only does the spring have hight adjustment but the shock does as well.

I have seen that Greddy rear setup before. Looks great, and VERY expensive.
If you get a machinist to make those up, likewise is a big exersize. You can use standard size coiloover bits and pieces to make the same thing with a little bit of adaptation....

I belive it's due to the independent rear suspension. like our fronts, when you lower it there is automatic camber effected. Our rears are solid axel(in the ae86). the cressidas are independent. also if you were to cut out where the 3 holes on the shock tower and re-drill more inward, you can relocate the suspension inward giving you further more camber angle. crazy huh? http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/crazy.gif
