so iv put a 20 silvertop 4age into my ae85 which had 3au previously

and the car obviously isnt running 100% more like 80% and i think this is to do with having no speed signal to the ecu.
my dash and speedo work completly fine.

would connecting a wire from here (speed signal)

to the L11 Spd pinout on the ecu create the speed signal and make the engine peform better?

thanks

i believe there should be somekind of speed sensor on the gbox?

^^^ the speed "sensor" in the gearbox is the speedo mechanical drive. And that goes to the speedo cluster.

I havn't experimented with the 20v ecu. Its worth a try. Only 1 wire, not too hard.

hmmm yeah im sure the ecu doesnt read any speed signals through the gearbox???it just goes to the dash for the speedo

oh and also my rev limit is at about 7,800 atm

Although i cant confirm for the 20v, but the 16v ecu doesnt really need the speed sensor. Its only really used for fine triming of fuel mixtures at idle and other certain areas, like closed lopp etc etc.

But no speed sensor signal is from the gearbox. Only signal that comes from the T50 is for the reverse lights.

There is a magnetic read switch in the rear of the instrument cluster, just underneath in behind where the cable goes in and you simply earth the screw as in the picture, then pin N# 7 (or use the screw as in the pic) on the plug for the actual signal.

Straight to the ecu speed input plug, reset your ecu's error codes (take of negative battery terminal for 5mins) and away you go.

If anything it will give a slightly smoother power delivery maybe slightly better fuel economy.

I dont think it will help with max rpm. Maybe fuel cut point but not rpm.

was about to suggest you find my post on this, but it loosk like you foudn it already (i took that pic)

i tried this on my 16 valve, but it didnt seem to do anything, still rev cuts at 7200 as far as i can tell.

iv got these thing on my tailshaft and this sensor thing, i donno what it is

edit: lol nevermind,
i have one of those aftermarket reed switchs and what seem to be magnets on the tailshaft...

thanks FKN16v real helpful i guess ill try it and hope for the best, and yeah i had a look at your post still didnt really understand completly though

ok so iv done exactly this..and the results well power delivery's smoother, seems like more tourqe down low, rev cuts still at 7200  (it wasnt 7,800 before as i said it was got my numbers mixed)

alot better than it previously was i think but still not that happy with 7200 >_<

That could be a warn out tacho, old coil, or your tacho wire of the coil is old, dirty, etc etc.

Would your tacho even spin to 7800rpm. I cant see the use of such a high rpm without motor mods. You got no power to gain after 6500-6800rpm anyways.

hey fkn16v, so what ur saying is run a wire from that speed signal screw to ur ecu yea?, which one is the speed input plug in the ecu, and what colour is the wire, is it purple and white?
