i hope the question ur asking is how ppl have mounted the amps in the boot and not custom boot installs ppl have done.....otherwise this post will grow by about 20 times calling u a ricer fag

if its not too big just bolt it to the back of the rear seats! im lucky because i have the battery in the boot my 5 channel nudges very nicely in between the box and plastic on the side

the seat has a curve in it and it has a lot of gaps and holes in it, and i doubt many pple here would do a custom boot install for their amp :P. Im not looking for a custom install tho, just a secure place to bolt it to.

i screwed a piece of mdf onto the back of the rear seat so its a flat surface then bolted my amp into the wood..

screw it to the back of the rear seat or if you have a sub screw it to the back of the sub

Use velcro loop tape on the bottom so it grips on the carpet and doesn'nt move around, a few bits should be plenty, it would make it easy to steal though, bolting to the back seats is a good way to do it, but then you need to mount the box somewhere.

Amp goes well screwed into the back of the rear seat (assuming you still have one, and its in good nick)

Can't really see it in there, but it screwed to the left hand side of the rear folding seat, powers the sub at the back and splits at the front, not fancy but it goes really well :) If your rear seats are in good condition, you can easily attach an amp to them. Most amplifiers (up to 4 channel) don't weigh so much that it will pull on the seats or the screws. I'm actually contemplating adding my second one into the car, on the right hand side of the rear seat.

Of course, if you are planning on running a Class D amp, you would want a custom box/install job :)

hey folks just noticed a few of you have mentioned screwing the amplifier to the sub box. i wouldn't suggest this, as it has a tendency to rattle the welds on the circuit boards in the amplifier. and eventually make your amp crap and die.

under the seats is a pretty good spot, you just gota make sure its got enough ventilation, keep it off the carpet etc.

i wanna put it on the back of the seat, just have to get a piece of wood made up i guess, unless u screwed it into the metal driftspec ? yea didnt like the idea of alot of vibraton on the amp, velcro sounds good casue i have it resting on carpet between the rear strut and the seat, i'll take a pic tomorow to show u how it is

Nice one, IMO amps and such have no place in an 86!!

My amp is screwed onto the back of the seat, to whatever support the seat has right on the back. Just had a look for you, looks like chipboard/strong MDF type backing. Its not screwed onto the frame of the back seat, but whatever the support it. Yours might me different, depending on how the car has been treated and looked after, you might need to add some extra wood backing to the seat to screw the amp in properly if the back of the rear seat is weak.

Good point about screwing the amp to the back of the sub box, not a good idea! Thats how a lot of amps fail, for two reasons: The shaking of the physical components in the amplifier (capacitors, MOSFETs etc), but also the changing magnetic field that the amp would have to work in while the sub operates and moves. The change in the field would introduce distortion into the sound (only a little, but it can get quite bad) which in turn can stress the electronic components and it dies from there :(

Would also NOT recommend velcro (in most installations) because the typical vibration and forces experience by any car can pull the velcro apart, and suddenly you have a loose object flying around the car, damaging your wiring etc. I would highly recommend staying away from it wherever possible :)

theres meant to be a chipboard backing? damn must have been an option :P and i couldnt see another thread called "Amp installations, in an 86" wouldn't think many pple would ask

^^Eh there was a thread a little while ago, but it was more a general car audio install help type thread :P

I'm not exactly sure what the backing of the rear seats are, but from what it felt like, it was like solid chipboard/wood on the back. I know my car has had a little interior restoration done, but the back of the rear seats should be pretty much standard backing. Have a feel of the back seat and check out the quality of the backing. Even if it is just whole, you can attach the amp to that. You may need to do a little mod work of your own, such as gluing some more chipboard to the back, or adding some pieces of wood against the back of the seat to attach the amp to.

Just some ideas, you might have to have a better look at the condition of the rear of the back seats to see what is possible.

this is how it is at the moment, and the back of the seat, (note the professional install (y) )

i think i might go with the velcro and leave the amp how it is, i hardly doubt the vibration will create the velcro to come undone, if anyting the glue would dissolve faster :P

Yeah man, looks good enough to me :2thumbs: The only concern about the vibration comes from how stiff your suspension setup is :D

I'll have to look at my back seats again, I take it that third pic is the rear of your back seat? I must have gotten lucky, I'm sure its chipboard there :)

i've zip tied mine to the back of the rear seats. works great.

johnny_08

nah zip tie wouldn't work as the screw holes arent round they're cut off half way like a U shape
