So im starting this a little early as i dont have the car yet.. untill tomorrow.
making a 3hr stip out to orange to grab a bargain Ksev, ive got heaps of inspiration for this car, ive owned one Ksev granny spec in the past and that was hell fun to drive in the wet! No power loose as suspension , ringing the neck of the poor little 4k and it heaving out a butt load of smoke to show its pain...from the tyres i wish!

update. will post pics tonight. got all the interior out, except dash top and center console, cut out some decent rust i found in the front of the pax side chasis rail. and engine is all ready to come out tomorrow.

next step i think is to get the pedal box sorted then bolt the front end in followed closly by the 4a..

need to get some dry ice tomorrow to assist removing the sound deadening ;)

It looks like you've started with a good base for a project, but i have a few comments - some constructive, some not:

- Good on you for actually finding and cutting the rust out of the rail, not many would do that unless doing a restoration on a rotissery.

- Although I think the widebody with the slotted front guard mount holes is a nice idea, i suppose you are aware that the gap between the front guard and bonnet is going to be huge?

It'd be a better idea (in my opinion) to space the bottom of the guard out if you're having clearance issues, which it looks like you're not.

Nice idea anyway.

- Finally, that steering wheel is super homo.

Good luck with your build, i look forward to seeing it progress.

haha that steering wheel is going in the trash as soon as i get around to putting the nardi on! mayb u could have it? hahah jokes... the rust.. well i hate rust and it was to bad for me to leave it.. didnt take long to fix, its gone now so thats the main thing, nah not having clearance issues.. and yeah im aware of the massive bonnet gap which u can see in the photos and also i expect their to be a decent gap between the front indicator and the guard 2.. which i dont actually care about because i think its something different and i really like it.. stay tuned.. going to get my engine crain from storage today ;) cheers Javal

ive been stuck into it for the last 2 days and now its break time for halvies so it thought id post up the progress.. pics ill post later.

ive installed and Ae86 pedal box into the 70 which had some mods and some support welded into it. y buy a 71 or T18 for 200-250 when the 86 one works fine and the pedals sit perfect!!..pics will show what i did, and also have used the ae86 steering colum support, which is a brace that runs the whole length between the pillars, that had to be shortened and welded in, will give some extra regidity as well. along with that also the Ae86 steering column, the Ke70 indicator + wiper switch has the same mount as the Ae86 indicator so off came one and on with the other, so it has an 86 adjustable column with the 70 indicator/wiper mech. also had to change the mount that goes thru the firewall to the ae86 item.. holes needed to be drilled out to allow for some give.
The engines are out of both cars and the 4age is sitting pretty next to the car ready to go in, All the sound deadener has been removed.. Thank the lord for Dry Ice!!!
JDM fuel tank and moddified filler neck also in.
pics up tonight

JDM fuel tank + filler install:
I used the filler grommet from tha 86.. moddified, and all i had to do was cut a section from the solid 86 filler pipe and add in the flexable rubber section from the Ke70 tank.. perfect!

Added washers to spread the pressure load on firewall
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/5/13998.jpg
This bolt was cut off to get the pedals as close as possible.

I was going to make a bracket but i thought this isnt going to come out and it was withing welding distance, just needed to do some hammering to get it sitting right.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/5/14003.jpg
With the steering column installed it sat 20mm off to the left.. NOT HAPPY!
THant was soon to be fixed!
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/5/14004.jpg
i had to cut a 20mm section out of the brace bar on the RHS of the mount and then cut and add 20mm on the LHS of the brace bar
You can see the sections cut out above.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/5/14005.jpg
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/5/14006.jpg
yeah i know i stuffed up.. i wasnt happy with the hight of the column(to low) but i had already welded on that bracket..so i had to cut off the end of the brace and flip it over so i could raise the whole brace bar to a good height.ahh well it will still work fine.

hey mate looking good this will be mean when finished, wide body sounds wicked as

like what was said above , do it your way and not the way every man and dog wants it done

p.s can i have your haltech

hehe thanks man appreciate it!

so for front rotors.. its been decieded... front rotors from the 2006 + mini cooper S... i couldnt find a rotor that had all the right specs and had the width of 30mm that the front of the 32 has..

mini cooper S rotor specs are

280mm x 22mm - 44mm high and the magical 64mm center hole

idealy the rotor would have been all that but 30mm wide.. ahh well no rotor in the whole international and aus DBA catalouge got closer than the mini rotor.

the other that came close was the Honda Euro V6 front rotor
282mm x 28mm - 47mm high and 64mm center hole..

this rotor would be absolutly perfect if i could mill down the mouting face by 3mm.. but i need to talk to an engineer to see if it would make it unsafe.. i dont see y it would as the mount face are usually 7mm min.

Went through the whole floating disc idea but again it would work but to find a rotor that had a height of 73mm - 76mm depending of mounting face thickness and have a center hole 64mm or less... ha i was dreaming!

in this conversion up from the main issue in gettting the most ideal rotor is clearing the LCA.. well gettting as close as possible so to minimise my offset loss.. :( hopefully its not going to be that bad.. i need to measure up how much back spacing ill need.. want to run 15" wattans... but want dish!! :DD

PS... oh yeah sure u can have my haltech.. sure just head on over ill spark up the barby ;)

UPDATE tiiiiiiimmmme.

gotta take some pics still, this is whats been done:

Haltech mounted up w/ coils etc under dash
modified stock bigport dizzy for haltech trigger/home sensor
full custom dizzy cap ;) .. u'll see
Engine loom all wired up, just need to conect up fuel pump and power to ecu.. 3 wires
4ag/T50 are in the bay sitting nicely.. just need an AE71 gearbox x member
86 fuel tank in + 86 main lines under body ..
booster/master in and lines ran.

main thing to do now is bolt the front suspension back in..once i get my new LCA bushes.. and then put the T series rear end in and it will be drivable.
ill get some pics up tomorrow

still hoping to crack 100kw.. it was 89 rwkw with stock ecu and safc running hell rich.. so i think 100 is achievable.. can u believe it.. it was running a cat.. so ill scrap that to.

Hey Thanks Schmo! hehe

i like haltechs, their a great ECU, have all the functions, inc datalogging, multi coil direct fire, Nos (not that il be using that) , VCT, anti lag/launch control, boost control.. it can pretty much control the world and haltech has great support here. they even do seminars on the gear so u can go and get a few lessons on how to use their stuff to its full potential.

ive never turned an engine before but im giving it a go with my 4a... its great because i can also calibrate using the original sensors... saves some decent money their.

Love the Wide body idea.....I had the same thoughts with my purple rig, done it slightly but not as extreme.....I only slotted the holes in the bottom of the guard and pulled it out from there.

Keep up the good work bud!

as for the steering knuckles matt, their techno toy
these ones are their older design, but cheaper then buying 2nd hand PS arms
http://www.technotoytuning.com/productdetail.php?p=789
or if u wanted to do what im going to do u can get them in a package with tie rods
http://www.technotoytuning.com/productdetail.php?p=739
these picture the OEM type knuckles

their newer design is a re model of the arm in the 1st link, they now have two holes drilled for mouting the outer tie rod.. this is a quote from Gia from T3

"They are now adjustable for steering ratio and angle and we have them plated instead of powdercoated for a nicer finish. "
u can see pics on the page before.
If your keen matt let me know and i can place them in my order, just give me the cash and for anything else u might want and u will save on shipping.

so finally an update:
im just going to throw up a bunch of pics.
what im doing right now:
brake conversion - R32 gtst front and rears. 280 x 29 mm rotors up front and 296 x 18mm rotors up the rear with 2 x R32 calipers / side - struts need some mods and ive finally found the perfect set of rotors to use that no one person has used before!! not loosing much needed wheel offsets!!! rotor mounted in stock position.
and also purchased a HSD sleeve kit, 8kg springs and helper etc.

pics: enjoy

Thanks man and other guys who posted, yeah big plans i guess, instead of focusing on how the car actually looks.. paint body work etc, im focusing on suspension/brakes etc.

ive had the 32 brakes around for years and not many guys have done the conversion out here, i dont know of anyone who will have dont it this way yet..
next thing is to mod the caliper bracket, so its time to set the struts up on the mill...

sundee
2nd October 2009, 06:27 PM
so while im still waiting for suspension parts, ive decided to keep going at this brake conversion.

i had the ultimate setup all planed, with a few days of searching the DBA cataloge over and over, and countless times of measuring and re measuring, wanting to mount the rotor in the stock inboard position, i came across the perfect rotor! was from a lotus elise S1 with dimentions of 280 x 29 x 29 pretty much no hat at all.. only listed in 5000 series i called up and got quoted $450/ roter!! it would still work and ive got it all drawn up but it majorly blows the budget!

anyway the cressida boys use R33 calipers with BA falcon rotors, but i had R32 calipers that take a 280mm rotor, so more searching and BINGO!! found a 287mm rotor 28 thick and 65mm height.

scored these from RDA for $180 the pair and their slotted aswell!!

brought em home double checked some things and then took them to re drill the PCD, $50 for the pair! much bettter then the $70/rotor prices i was getting earlier in the day..

and here is pics so far.

Also painted up my exhausts system

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/5/24682.jpg
as you can see below the 287mm rotor is just a bit tall for the R32 caliper
(factory 280mm) so ill need to mill it down about 2 mm
Rotor needs to be aligned, i need to mill 2mm off the mounting bracket. the 141 has a meaty brackets measuring in at just uner 12mm

you talking about your one's cal? cant u get the big lock nut off ? i had to put the strut in a vice then i have the biggest shifter u have ever seen, its about 800mm long, i found if i tightened it first then tried to undo it, it worked, u need some big force to get them off.

try getting some heat into it aswell, it will cause the strut tube to expand a little and help it release from the nut.

as for cutting and shutting etc, yeah im doing it to mine, im getting an alignment sleeve made up so it can be all welded back together properly

got some cusco low engine mounts as well, you wouldnt want to go any lower with the stock sump as these mounts put the sump flush with the bottom of the x member.

well thats pretty much how it is with this

Turbo is a one off custom, its got a GT28 56 trim rear turbine wheel with a billet compressor wheel out of bates rally car, with a exducer size of 66mm on the compressor wheel with a GT30 comp cover that has been sleeved and machined, all that and you get this - GT 28/66 spl.

so no time looking at your watch while this spools up

sundee
19th November 2009, 11:30 PM
yeah the master actually just hits the strut tower...ah well, their is a bit of clearence from the plenum though..and the new mounts are stiff as! i was going to lower the whole x member by another 15 - 20mm but still undecided.. get that COG down, but it might end up fowling the clutch master...

Coilovers and R32 Brake conversion is all complete... rotors modded and all bit up well.. just need to paint the strut leg for ultimate pimp action.

next is to mod the front lower chasis rail brace... whatever you call it..
going to cut it out.. weld in some roll cage spec 350mpa steel tube so i can get my rad and intercooler in the right spot... yeah yeah.. get your flame throwers out and throw the legal jargen at me... the grinder will be out tomorrow ;)

hey pimp, brought the rims and tyres from AJPS, best price i could find even with them shipped - pretty much the cheapest tyres i could find the re001's in sydney was from a mates mate that works a bridgestone in taren pt - he could do them for $170 fitted - i got prices from 185 - 215 fitted in syd... dave is pretty cheap hay.. they look FAT!

im gonna see how they go... i was looking at proxes 4's aswell.. ill give them a wrap after these wear out.
if i can find my quote list ill throw up all the prices i got from blokes in syd and for wat tyres.

bit of progress - test fitted a wheel.. need longer wheel studs - installing them tomorrow 73mm - could easily run R33 calipers and 296mm rotors under these wheels, but the R32 and 280mm rotors is big enough
The bottom of the caliper just touches the center mounting disc of the wheel - a 5mm slip on sorted it out.. later on ill look at fixing that to get rid of the spacer.

heaps stoked with the wheels they look fat!
got some pics of the front coilovers installed and all the front end in place.
enjoy...

Bigm's KE looked pretty sick with CBY flares on it....

Isn't Pidwell runnin 10's on the rear of his under stock metal.??

bigm
18th December 2009, 07:34 AM
I ran the CYB flares for an 86, would recommended it for the x7 tho, because if u want to go low enough you loose your rear doors (because the arch is a slightly different shape) and it looks wack.. cool from a distance tho :P

datsun 240z or 260z flares are the way to go if thats what u want? but im pretty sure u want all metal do get that hammer out :)

yeah pidwell is running 10's on the rear under flaired metal guards... i only just saw that the other day on some youtube vid - i wish i could find it again!. got me even more pumped..
as for the fronts.. the guard wasnt in position properly.. im going to flare it as much as i can and then some more.. and if they still dont fit im going to pull the guard out where it attaches near the bottom of the door to get that little bit extra... ive also slotted the mounting points for the 1/4 panel so i'll get a few more mm their.

i dont want bolt on flairs at all... it can be done!! haha

if this rain stops ill have some more progress today... but it seems to always rain on my days off...grrr

Why 205's?

What is going on the rear (sorry if you have already mentioned it, I sorta just jumped in!)

Flares? Metal?

Same on the rear Marvis - 205's are a good size i think.. 195 to small on a 10" rim and 215/50 if u can get them, but wanted a bit of stretch to stiffen up those side walls...and guards stock guards hand flaired... might need to weld some fronts on the rear.. see how we go.

Prime86
27th December 2009, 03:26 PM
Haha thats what I have in mind, an insane N/A Hachi. I push almost 300rwhp out of the green coupe at the moment which is pretty cool. I have an engine gearbox and diff to build a very serious N/A hachi sitting in the shed so just have to make the decision to pull the turbo setup and go for the N/A version. It would have to push around to 250rwhp though, that would be my goal.

MkII corona F series w/TRD 2way - installed
T3 4 link - installed
T3 Panhard - Installed
ajps 200mm 6kg springs - installed
TRD blue adj - installed
flaired guards - both sides
fitted 15 x 10 -12 superlite GTR's
Cars on the ground and compnents tightened up

Fitment is pretty epic - car looks very tuff! will get pics up in a little while
gotta love adjustment.

getting rid of a twin caliper setup for the F series - R31+VR commo calipers and R31 rotors -all pads- got some bracket to weld on to - average though, all could use a clean up - going cheap - $150 + post

ok ive rear this thread and there's alot of back and forward info on the front strut/brake info. I know your using r32 calipers but will the r33 calipers and rotors work on the st141 strut and i wouldnt mind keeping the 5 stud setup. Did you ever venture down that path?

Their shouldnt be any conflicting info - as what ive mentioned is already on my car..
to use R33 gear, you can buy an adapter - they use them on nissans to go up to 296mm rotors in the S series and R32's - so all you would need is a pair of adapters then bolt your stuff up.
as for 5 stud, their are no decent wheels IMO - and then you would have to convert the rear to 5 stud, to much mucking around with no advantage.
the only reason i would go to R33 gear or up to 296mm rotors is so i can loose my 5mm slip on spacer - without it my caliper just touches the spokes on my superlites. and their is a boot load of room in the superlite 15" - 296 should fit np.
