hey guys I'm building an sr20de+t ke70. it will have s13 front coilover suspension with sr20 brakes. rear end will have r31 diff with r31 disc rear brakes. engine mounts will be very well fabricated. and I'm not sure what else needs to be done.
Cheers

Speak to an engineer. Get a list of the licensed ones of the Vicroads website or call them and they will mail it out.

Find out what they want/don't want to see before you get in too deep.

I spoke to an engineer he just said brake upgrade and cat on the exhaust... brakes same size as car it came off and bigger wheels 15 or 16 inch....

It can be done. Engine has to be stock unless you want to spend $1500 per test at the EPA. Just bolt it in, stock ecu, stock type cat etc. It's mainly the pollution stuff that they are worried about. I'm not even sure that you have to upgrade the brakes as in, I don't know that there are any regulations that require it.
It has to be a neat job too.

leigh pidwell has done it but i couldnt be too sure how you could get in contact with him,
if you went to driftfest last year that white ke70 had an sr in it and it was rego'd

hahaha rego'd but definitely not engineered lol. leigh wouldn't have a chance in hell of gettin his pig engineered :P

why not?

its not the cleanest conversion or the cleanest car as leigh is worried about functionality and getting it done quick rather than appearance and neatness....

my ute cut is far from what I'd call neat and pretty, but it is very very functional and due to this the engineer was happy.

Providing you can prove the brakes/susp came from an sr20 spec'd car. with part numbers and such and that engine/gearbox mounts are well made, maybe with a bit of gusseting in the frame. ie strut brace to firewall rear strut brace and a few other bit's. I can't see why it wont be engineered. unless your using 12gauge plate for mount's and wiring everywhere.

A couple of day's to tidy little bit's up, zip tie and conduit stray wires, paint welded bits works wonders for how good thing's look. engineers are also worried about longevity, they way they look at it is 3 owners down the track someone loses control and put's it into a tree they get called to the stand for manslaughter because they said the car was safe.

i agree, by using a modified engine, it will be hard to get engineered

Which of the approved engineers did you talk to?
Because I just spoke to one and it seems difficult to get even a 4age engineereed

sorry i just don't see how engineering is looked upon by how the appearance and neatness is, my last 86 was a pig and it passed?

I'm pretty sure corners have been cut aswell. just to get things done quickly and easily.
