See the benefit of owning something and putting it up for sale is you can price it however you like.

You can't buy new Toyota gear sets for that much, maybe Weir ones but they're nowhere near as good as genuine Toyota.
$350 is a fair price and he says its negotiable.

what are differences between OEM and Weir?

Casting metals are normally of a higher grade for oem normally for longevity of parts. After market companies hardly ever exceed oem specs for things like gear sets and diff related items.
That's my understanding of it. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

you cant get an OEM 4.778 final drive for T series, unless you call OEM TRD, in which case they haven't been made for a long time.
The Weir sets are great quality.. and you would see no difference in performance and reliability (if used in the correct application) between them both.
I dont understand why you want to sell it though if your saying its still useable?
maybe post some pics so buyers can see what your talking about, might help you a bit

Was setup by the toyota rally guru and he said they were not good so ...

Yeah thats cool, thanks, just the Toyota VS other brands that I don't see the point of.
Anyway, added some pics and dropped the price.

well if yours is a toyota gear set, a person like me interested in buying it would like to know the benefits of a second hand oem vs new aftermarket

I dont meant to be Rude mate, but What you said above is just misleading and outright BS!
Toyota/TRD DO NOT make final drive gearsets for T series ae86 anymore. They are discontinued and NLA from TRD and has been the case for quite some time.. and FYI the TRD Final drive was 5.375 NOT 4.778.
When i was selling Weir Gearsets, i sold a heap of them, and in that time no one had any issues or complained about their reliability or operation.
Back to the Sale... it sucks that you have been "stung" i guess you could say, it happens some times when you purchase from Jland.
who did you purchase it through?

Bought it through Jesse streeter. There was only one photo of the diff gears and they looked ok. I took a chance.

Toyota Japan tell me they are NLA.
I'm not saying you can't still find them around, I'm saying they are no longer made or available through toyota.
Also this listing shows the ratio available...
http://www.trdparts.jp/english/list_ae86.html
So if 4.778 was available, it must have been a long long time ago because its not even listen.
I don't think a yahoo listing has much credibilty.

I fitted a 4.77 Genuine Toyota gear kit to my car only 2 months ago. Ajps is bang on, my gear kit part number is 41201-29637. This is a complete kit with all seals bolts etc all you need is bearings and axle seals.
