MY AE86 BUILD

wow... long time no update!
Guess I'll start where this thread left off.
After round 1 I pulled the motor back out to give the engine bay a clean up, seam weld the cracks where the chassis rails join the firewall, and gave it a bit of a repaint.
I changed back to a longer trumpet as well which gave much better midrange out of the corners.
I ran all of the state championship meetings last year, and managed to take out the state championship for the under 2 litre category, which was what I set out to do, so was pretty pleased to do that in my first complete year of racing.
Making the most of the brakes!
Round 3 was definitely my best round, after qualifying 5th in the wet I DNF'd both races on the saturday with ignition and alternator issues, but I managed to make up a lot of spots on the first race on sunday in the damp, eventually finishing 4th outright in the last (dry) race against some much faster competition.
This is the video from the sunday morning race, starting from rear of grid:
Wasn't completely without drama unfortunately, I was rear ended off the startline in the first race of the last round, which bent the rear 1/4 panel and back of the car pretty well.
After stripping off the car the rail wasn't bent, so off it went to the crash shop who made it look all pretty again. I couldn't be bothered with redoing all of the vinyl work again, so it's back to panda spec once again.
So the plan for the rest of this year is to change a few bits around and tidy up a few more things, then hopefully head over to Phillip Island for Island Magic at the end of the year.
how did you find going to the 6 speed/ is 1st locked out or is it legan in ipra
the red magna was being pretty defensive, but its easy to see where the lighter cars make up the ground

Yeah 6 speed is good, not having 1st isn't really too much of a disadvantage, it still gets off the line ok.
Yeah John certainly makes it hard to pass, but he's built a 4 litre stroker motor since that video and is making about 240kw at the wheels... So I probably won't have to worry about racing him any more. I'm on a 205, I'd like to use the 225, but the rim size limit makes it hard unless I change to a late model class car, but then I have to put weight into the car and I don't really want to do that.
Plenty of people run the 225 on a 7 inch rim.
I ran 225s on the 7s in a048s and it was really squirmy. The sidewalls are actually quite baggy on the Advans.
love this car mate. the battle with the mallala hotel red magna in the rnd 3 vid was epic. great work
