    Default ke70 plus work

    Car -ke70 possibly?

    motor -4k

    use -daily/for grip

    problem -auto

    personal situation -

okay, so ive been after an ae71 forever, and im over waiting, so im looking at maybe buying a ke70.

ones come up, very clean, aircon (L), one problem.
    its auto.

id have 2500, and a more than willing family friend whos a mechanic to help me and so i ask wat would you do.

being still in school, i cant really have time for drift days, so i guess id like to have something good around corners, as i too know full well how shit 4k's are anywhere else.

so, would you convert to manuel and run?
how much would this cost me?

or would you do an engine swap? 4age?
    basic pricing?

cheers for the advice in advanced, i know some blokes dont like these types of threads, but everyone starts somewhere.

an auto ke70 isnt worth 500$

it could cost up to 1000$ for all the parts to go manual

you might get all the parts cheap like for 200 or something..

its a lot of work, id only buy an auto one if i was going to convert it straight to being a hydrolic clutch from ae71/t18 and putting a 3tc or 4age in it..

i didnt get much change out of about 2500 for my 4age conversion into ke70. it adds up FAST! (and my head/block cost $150)

if you dont have much cash (i dont either). i suggest you find a manual ke70, and spend a few dollars on the motor.

everyone bags the 4k, but its bullet proof and with a few mods can have some fun.

everyone also sais that ke70 are cheap to mod, they are not. being a 30yr old grandma piece of crap mass production car you almost need to replace everything to make it decent.

so get your standard MANUAL ke70, do not pay more than 1000, even if its registered.

get a set of springs and shocks i reckon first up, emphasis on the shocks. nothing better than new shocks. if your keen replace the bushes while your at i (especailly the trailing arm ones). you might spend 600$ here.

replace brake pads, front discs (if they are crap). general service.

    now onto engine.

stock 4k, is slow as. however, they are reliable and bullet proof. you will be very hard pressed to do any damage to one, as long as you keep the fluids up to it.

so whip that head off, down to the machinist to up the compression, maybe 60$ here. new headgasket to go with it.

next get your camshaft re ground to something a little more agressive, i dunno specs, see rollaclub.

now find yourself a nice webber or simliar upgraded carby, put a kit through it, make sure it doesn't leak.

match compressoin + camshaft + decent carby, and you will have a pretty sweet engine. also maybe look into an elecrtonic distributer, i hear they are good.

4age's are good, but not that good. and im not entirely sure they are worth the coin. dont get me wrong my car with a 4age is heaps of fun, but say if i spend 1000$ more, i could have a 3sge or something.

also remember you dont have to do all these mods at once to enjoy your car.

ive had my car for 3yrs, and im still getting it right (dont have an lsd yet, and still havent replace those trailing arm bushes....). oh and its a learning experience too.

i bought my ke70 and i had this master plan, that i would have it all finished in 6months. didnt work out like that..

i dont really agree with you dave on the "4age's are good, but not that good"
3s is a stuff load more work then a 4a conversion, by the 1st post you can tell the guy is going to need quite a bit of help.

everyone is on the 3S bandwagon now - 4ag 16v engines rock!

Cicca - if i were you, id just keep the thing auto.. work hard, save some pennies, and do a 4ag conversion, 16v or 20v

engine cost can very depending on how you go about it.
you can pay up to $2800 for a low Km mildy modified 16v engine. (that what i sold mine for)

    T50(JDM) $250 - $350
    Ae71 pedal box - $200
    ae71 clutch master - $30-$40 or so
ae71/86 clutch slave - never brought one $? about the same as the master i guess
Clutch hard line - could get from a wrecker or make your own
clutch flex line - local brake shop can sort you.. $25?
ECU and loom - depends if u stay stock or aftermarket
    ae71 tail shaft - $100?
    JDM 86 EFI fuel tank - $300 - $400
    ae86/71 engine x member $100 -$150
    ae71 gearbox x member - $40 - $50
    Extractors/Exhaust - $800 ish

    Fuel lines - Wiring - misc - $200

if you cant wire it up yourself then maybe $500 - $700 to wire it all up? im just guessing that as ive never had to pay for it.

i am missing stuff but you get the idea.. it all ads up and its the little things you usually dont think about

for the cost of 4ages these days id rather build a 60kw 4k than put a 4age and my wallet would be a lot better off

my stock 4k produced 40rwkw with nothing done to the engine at all, 4ages are nice dont get me wrong but what are they selling for these days ?

I sold a ke70 manual conversion kit, with everything needed except the gearbox for something like $150. Its all bolt in bolt out in an auto car, you have to drill one hole in the firewall for the clutch cable to come through. Its an easy swap that can be done in a day.

You need tailshaft, gearbox, gearbox stays, sandwhich plate, pedal box, gearbox crossmember and mount, clutch cable, clutch, flywheel, and a spigot bearing. Its a cable clutch so no overpriced hydraulic to buy.

Theres nothing hard about it. Nobody here rates 4ks or knows much about them, as evidenced by the above post. They are a great motor for a daily, quite economical, and fun if you put a cam in.

Go ahead, buy the auto rig, youll just have to find a manual car to raid the conversion from. The auto diff ratio is 4.3:1 so if you buy an auto car and convert it to manual, you will have a nice diff ratio for accelleration. If you cam up the 4k (an under 200 dollar exercise - consult Ivan tghe in Brisbane) you will enjoy it very much.

5 speed gearboxes go for about 100 dollars, 4 speeds are usually given away free.

Dont be discouraged, if you have a mate who is a mechanic it will be a good learning experience for you. Should take a day.

    have fun.
