the problem with 4age conversions in ke70s is not the price of the 4age itself.
4age's are actually pretty cheap if you know where to look, here is how my conversion went.
4age + box of bits (block, head, few timing belts, fuel rail, injectors, tvis, a water pump, various water pipes and a box of bolts) - $140 (from mr littleredspirit)
genuine jap rwd inlet manifold- $250
genuine jap rwd headers with 2ndaries - $20 (bargain of the century)
exhaust (2.25" brand new high flow cat, resonator, muffler, over diff)- $550
tow to get to exhaust shop - $90 (i got ripped off on this one...)
t50 gearbox - $250
ae71 pedal box - $140
brand new clutch master- $70
brand new clutch slave - $50
ecu + loom -$150
clutch hard line - $freee
clutch soft line ("custom" braided)- $70
ae71 tailshaft- $50
ae71 engine crossmemeber with engine brackets- $110
ae71 gbox crossmember - $50 (i think...)
wiring- $100 (paid my mate who did it real quick)
mod plate - $80
brand new HD exedy clutch - 250
spigot bearing - $8 (hehe)
varios gaskets/sealant- $100 (blue goo, inlet/exhaust gasket etc)
inital oils/filter (engine oil/filter 50, gbox oil 30, coolant, alt belt etc) $100
distributer- $60
new spark plugs and leads - $80? (i think)
injectors clean - $110
and then when i got it all running. head gasket blew.
headgasket - $80
head overhaul (skim, few new valves, new valve stem seals, acid clean) $350
total $3208
4age engine + head overhal = $570 = %17 of total cost.

If you can find a cheap KE70 auto, get it and convert it to manual with parts from pick-a-part. Drive it a bit with lowered springs and see how you go.
If you want a 4age keep either convert it or sell the car and buy one that already has it done, save you time and money.
Since you have 2500 already you might want to save up a bit more and just buy a 4age KE70 off the bat.
lol 3200$ for a 4age conversion...
ill give you an idea how much mine cost in my sprinter.. obviously not the same as half the parts you bought i already had... but its cost 250$.
and for ke70 conversion to t50 , 3tc, hydro clutch s series diff n tail shaft.. 100$ but i sold the healthy 4k with 5 speed for 450$ so i guess i got payed 350$ to do an engine conversion on my ke70..
a 4age "half cut" should only cost around 1000$ for everything you need bar tail shaft and s or t series diff. but the prices are just stupid as you have shown... ive seen/heard of 4age rwd pakages (engine/loom/ecu) for between 1200 and 2000$
i can go buy a 3sge for 300$.. i know its not quite as easy to put in but still it represents what the 4age should be worth without the takumi tax
hell for nearly 3500$ you could get an sr turbo half cut and everything you need to do it.. maybe![]()
yer you are correct.
but youll notice that alot of the prices i have listed arent really 4age specific. things like distributers, spark plug leads, injector cleaning, exhaust, gearbox (a wreckers will charge alot for all gearboxes), new parts such as clutch master/slave the clutch itself, oil/filters. all these things will cost about the same no matter what conversion you do.
assuming you buy in parts.
in heinsight i should have bought a halfcut or something, but the reality is i bought all those parts over a period of 3yrs so it didnt seem that much untill i added it all up,and i dont have space at my house to put a halfcut. and i needed to get the conversion done quickly as it is my only car, i ended up doing it all in 1 weekend (untill we found the headgasket, which added a week or so).
basically all im trying to say is that engine conversions, no matter what engine it is, costs alot of cash. unless you are lucky enough to get everything either very cheap or free its an expensive exercise.
i should add that doing conversions from carby engine to carby engine arent that bad (as you have shown with your 3tc egsample). but converting to efi is bit more of an exercise, with fuel systems (damn i forgot to add my fuel system in the list....2 pumps, surge tank......$300) ecu/loom/injectors, the price just keeps going up...

which is why i said in my first post to this bloke just buy a manual ke70 and do a bit of work to the 4k..
with standard carby and stock exhaust they can make very good power.. more than enough to have fun driving fast around corners and plenty to drift in the rain..
4age's.. and yes all engine conversions are just not a smart thing to do unless you get everythign cheap and do everything yourself
buy the car and driveline appropriate to what to want in the first place.
all very well that you bought all the parts over 3 years and did it all in a weekend (bar h/g) but you couldve saved for 3 years, bought a jap ae86 half cut, and still done it in a weekend and been no worse off.. (excluding the fact you have bought some new parts)
have i said 3TC FTW yet?![]()
prolly wouldnt have a ksev nor would i give a fk about 3tc's...
but having seen wat mark did in the his old snot box impressed me enough to build one myself...
quite a weapon of a car for fuck all cash thats for sure...
